How reliable are the WK2 GC?

Hey guys,

looking at buying a new Grand Cherokee and am a bit concerned about the reliability of them. There was an article yesterday which pointed out that all the Chrysler brands (including Jeep) were the worst for issues - now this was based on three year old cars, but still it seems the maker has a history that they may not have changed yet http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/t...216-1tacf.html

Then I was reading the thread about the front hooks and you can see this top one No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help having issues - going around Fraser, stockton and other similar places is one of the things I will be doing with the car and I am wanting a new car so I don't have to worry about it getting there - my current 4wd is 18yrs old and has never let me down, but I monitor it like a hawk, so it would be good to just focus on the driving and not on whether the car may over etc.

So share your experiences (your own or other drivers). I really think the car is amazing, the level of features for the price, the on-road performance and potential off-road to me seems like there is nothing that matches it, however if it is going to let me down when i need it most, that isn't good (plus they really need to put in that bloody front recovery hook .

So is it just a few bad stories that pull it down or is it common
thanks

Re: How reliable are the WK2 GC?

I've got a new WK2 on order and have to say it wasn't my first choice, but then I drove it and WOW!!! I think most forum users will share this sentiment.
My last car was a Jeep KJ Chrokee and I loved it, washed it, serviced it and took it off road more than most would expect to, and it never let me down. When I sold it, it sill started first time and sounded as good as it did on the first day I got it. Regular and correct servicing I believe is paramount.
I gave it up for 2 reasons 1 - 220,000kms and 2 - fuel economy very poor.
So when it came to updating I looked at the new VW, Paj, Patrol etc as they had a good deisel option. Unhappy with the above after a test drive, a nearby car dealer happened to be Jeep so in I went and test drove a GC V6 Penstar with all the advertising about the great fuel economy. Then I asked about a deisel option and was told yes, but 6 months from order. Well so happy with the test drive and quality, coupled with my previous great history, I signed then and there.
Have to say I'm disappointed about the tow hook issue, but confident that someone somewhere and hopefully sometime soon will provide Jeep with the solution. There's too many customers including Jeep club members that need this option, so it will be solved, just not sure when.

Agree with the drive of this car. All other cars seem to compromise between on-road performance and off-road performance or looks and finish. The Jeep doesn't seem to have any of those compromises (maybe a few dollars cheaper would be nice with the options I would want). Just that reliability cloud is still there for me to dispel

Re: How reliable are the WK2 GC?

I concur with the others. Although I have not yet taken delivery, I have driven the GC Hemi and Diesel. The diesel sold me. I thought it had better power than the V8.
Interior is great, and when coming out of a Ford Territory Turbo Ghia, I thought it was huge leap forward compared to the Ford.
Reliabily and quality of the Jeep has taken a huge step forward with the 2011 WK2 model.
Of course there will be issues, hopefully restricted to one or two cars, but that is the same with all makes.

This has happened several times to my wife but not me. I told her to exit the car, lock it, then unlock then try again. So far this has worked 2 time in the past 3 weeks successfully. I think it is to do with the WIM not seeing the key properly.

This was the 1st issue we had the day we took delivery of the vehicle, the dealer did a computer upgrade and has ordered us a 900CCA battery to replace the 800CCA one, was told it has been a common problem. Apparently the computer upgrade is to reduce the drain on the battery when parked.
