I bought a Jeep - started a Mistake.....but now???

Well took delivery on my Summit near on 8 weeks ago
During hand over I was not sure that the Quadra-Lift was operating correctly but I was assured by the John Hughes staff that all was OK (They can be now only can be described as a blatant LIES!)
When driving the next morning to get the windows tinted, I received a "Service Air Suspension Immediately" warning!
Left it at the the Tinting place and called the salesman at John Hughes.
Was assured when he called back that it would be only a reset or configuration setting that will be fixed as soon as they hook it up to their computers
John Hughes organised to pick the car up from the tinting place which just happened to be just around the corner and was taken to their service department around 11am.
3pm when I was wanting to leave work I called the service department to find out how things were going, only to be told that my car was not there and they knew nothing about it, told them Joe Higgins from new car sales had organised it Ohhh sorry we will look into it and call you back!
30 minutes later they call me back and state that they have found it and are just starting to look at it now! WTF you have had it most of the day? they would call me in 30 minutes when they know more!

About 15 minutes later what sounded like a young school kid called and said that he was the technician looking after my car and the Quadra-Lift controller had failed and they would need to get one sent over from the states to replace it - I asked why this was not picked up during their so call Pre Delivery Inspection and why then hell it was going to take 5 - 7 weeks to get the part sent over, I was told that it was tested and everything was working correctly and that the controller comes pre configured to the VIN of the car from the manufacture?
So in their eyes they wanted me to believe that magically somewhere between the Pre Delivery Inspection and me looking at it in the showroom this part craps it self - I called and still call Bullshit on BOTH that a pre delivery was carried out and the controller would be configured to the VIN!

Anyway Long story short I got Jeep Australia involved and they informed me that the controller was NOT configured by the 3rd party manufacture contradicting John Hughes EXCUSE for leaving me dangling since they already had my money without effecting any of their other stock!
More Lies and constant excuses from the John Hughes staff had me back in touch with Jeep Australia and asked if it was possible for the controller to go to DVG Maddington because I had really had enough of the people John Hughes with the no care no responsibility attitude.
Was called by Mark (Service Manager) at Maddington who was only too happy to look after the repairs for me
Took John Hughes 1 week to get the part over to Maddington
I was really happy to be informed by Mark that the Controller was perfectly fine and there was blown fuses which after investigating they found a damaged wiring harness - would take a couple of days to get one over from Melbourne
Replaced the harness and then found that the system had no Nitrogen and that they needed both the connection hoses because apparently not 1 Authorized service center in Western Aust has them nor do they have Nitrogen!

Get a call from the big man himself, John Hughes on the Thursday afternoon and he informs me that they have another car in the showroom and they will swap it over for me - Great John will see you Saturday

Pick the car up from Maddington Friday after work, go see John Hughes on the Saturday morning only to find that they were trying to swap my Summit for an Limited WTF Granted it was the same colour and it was a Jeep BUT with a bit of a price difference!

Over 1 more week for Maddington to get the Nitrogen in to recharge the system, couple of days to carry out the work and update all the software and maps.
Spoke to Mark the service manager just after lunch today and was told that everything was going well and it was now working only to be told there are further problems with the front pumps getting hot and over heating when I get there!
They are now waiting on further answers from Jeep!
Quadra-Lift pumps are not described as a "common" part so it looks like another bloody wait to get it sent over from the states!

8 weeks and counting, where they have had my hard earned money and I have a faulty piece of crap that I cant drive and to make it worse I have got no idea how much longer this will drag out for!

I know you can get good and bad in any brand, but I have NEVER had a run around like this and extended delays!
If this is what I get from a BRAND NEW Jeep I dread to think what its going to be like later when it gets "old"

Having read many similar post, I'm not surprised that it takes forever to get parts to Australia. In that, Jeep has really dropped the ball.

But, offering to swap your Summit for a Limited just boggles the mind.

Good Luck!

Wow, horrible story but not an unusual situation with JA and their dealers.

re: I bought a Jeep - started a Mistake.....but now???

I love my Jeep but I've had a few problems and all of them have become bigger issues than they should have been because Jeep don't carry enough parts to support their dealer network.

My car is a tool of trade and I turn them over pretty quickly and though I have always planned to update to a new CRD I'm not sure it's a wise decision because I can't afford to have my car off the road while I wait for parts. I think this is where Jeep Australia needs to really get they're act together because at the moment they have a strong value proposition coupled with greating marketing campaign which has driven their new sales to all time highs but they are not building loyalty by failing to support their product and because of this they won't get their second bite at the cherry!

I was tempted away from Toyota by the Jeep but right now I'm waiting to see the new Prado Altitude and thinking it might be time to go back to the tried and tested.

re: I bought a Jeep - started a Mistake.....but now???

We know its not the problem but how that problem is dealt with that makes the difference

Getting to the stage where I dont know what to believe and maybe its is more a case of they have no bloody idea what is wrong with it and they will just keep replacing parts until they get lucky and find the one that is faulty?

Maybe it is how they are telling me and the existing problems are stopping them carrying out the full tests

Maybe with my luck I have bought a bloody lemon that will just be problem after problem!!!

Any which way, I think it pretty disgusting to leave a customer with the expense of something that is not fit for purpose nor is it as advertised especially on something that should have been picked up in quality checks and rectified long before it reached any customer

re: I bought a Jeep - started a Mistake.....but now???

That sucks Mark, I hope they have given you a decent loaner.
I have had a Service Tire Pressure Monitor error on my car a week after I got it (started end April).

It has been at the dealer 4 times and they are at a loss as to the cause. They have now said that their system detects a "foreign device" which they said is my CrashCam or the CLSTech headlight ribbon mod, could be causing the problem. Neither of these were in the car when the problem happened, so I called Bullshit on their claim. They have said they do not know what to do now.

I contacted that very "special" place, Jeep AU for assistance. I must admit I was very surprised by the significantly improved call center (all the training must have paid off). Spoke to Jodi, who checked their system and said that Mopar Brookvale have not engaged their specialists in my problem. They are now going to start this process and hopefully work out what the hell is going on.

While I will not hold my breath based on previous experiences with JeepAU, I am trying to remain positive. Thankfully, I only get an error every time I start my car, the TPMS still reads the pressures correctly.

Still love the car, but these things are getting so technical, many of the service people plug in the car to their scanners and say "The computer says NO" so they have NFI what to do, except start replacing parts.

Being in IT, I can sort of understand the problems now being faced by car makers, service centers and car owners.

We want Tech in our cars, Car makers are hopeless at making tech, so they outsource it and dealers pay peanuts to their "Technicians" so they generally suck. These electronic systems are fairly generic and can be used across many car makers and models. The car makers mix and match tech and do not control the whole process. So we end up with a Frankenstein, that may or may not work correctly.

When a problem does occur and the service center cannot fix it, to avoid looking bad in the customers eyes, they will make up Bullshit that comes across as plausible to most car owners.

This is why Jeep AU hate this site. They know that more buyers are becoming informed and are doing a lot of research before they buy, or if they get a problem.

I would be lodging a case with the ACCC to get Jeep moving, if you feel you are stuck in a loop, as this makes them realise you are not going to take their BS anymore.
All I can say is good luck and hope it gets sorted out soon.

Enforcer, you dont seem to have as many issues in with these sorts of things with Japanese manufacturers though.

re: I bought a Jeep - started a Mistake.....but now???

Depends on the car maker. You can read horror stories about every brand.
If you go to any forum on any car maker, you will see how car companies treat problem customers. Some are better than others, but car makers are all a very similar bunch.
You need to look at Toyota with the Prius brake issues, Audi with the DSG issues or Ford with the Exploder issues. They have all shown a blatant disregard for the end user, until they are forced to.

Good that Maddington are trying to look after you though, theres some good guys over there from what I gather
