Re: In Aus, and used Snow Mode

The mate whose Jeep is stuck up there swears he filled the entire tank with alpine diesel and then added the additive and it still froze. Not sure what is going on there. When I left he had a heater under the car with tarps around the sides to keep the heat in!! The RACV at Buller no longer stick a heater under your car, just tray it up and take it down to Mansfield..... for a price of course!

Re: In Aus, and used Snow Mode

Lol funny reading this as on sunday night I got a call from my sister whos prado had frozen diesel at mt bawbaw racv tried for 2hrs to start it and they gave up she had to stay another night, as I run a workshop 1hr away I packed my gc with a gas blower heater, 20ltr diesell, 20ltr hot water and a new fuel filter, had some fun climbing the mountain without fitting chains placed the heater and jerrycan of diesel under the car to heat, replaced the filter of which the fuel was waxed, poured the heated jerry into the tank added icebreaker additive, poured the hot water over the fuel rail and it was enough to start it. Since then im told no servos in our area carry winter mix diesel, also had a lady in the shop a few weeks back on a frosty cold morning with same issues. One thing I couldnt believe racv failed to start it .all they carried was heated water pretty piss poor for coverage on a mountain.

For those in NSW/ACT I can advise that the Woolworths Caltex at Majura (ACT) carries an alpine mix diesel. Filled up there and stayed in the snow and had no issues with starting.

(Opps sorry for the double up)

My issue is that the watering down of government oversight on things like fuel and fuel pump acurate readings
I really have no faith in what we are paying for now days.
In Qld recently on u tub a guy was holding the bowser pump in his had but the dollars kept going up but no fuel.
Mate drives for on of the major oil company and he tells me that he regularly pumps out service station tanks that some one had delivered the wrong fuel and he also tests me that this fuel is not dumped but mixed in the large holding tanks back at the refinery
So quality of fuel is really pot luck
Government is good at red tap but slack in protecting the consumer

.

Then again, we could end up in some interesting places.

Getting there I suspect wouldn't be the problem Allypally, it would be getting back that would be the challenge!
