Installing seat covers

Greetings folks,

Have been lurking here since purchasing the Jeep in January

Want to fit seat covers and wondered if the headrests can be removed. Can get them up to the highest setting using the little button.

Previous vehicles i have had, you continue pressing the button and the head rest will come all the way out. Not so with the Jeep

And yes the covers are airbag compatible

Regards,

Neil

Re: Installing seat covers

The headrests are Active for rear end collisions to prevent whiplash and AFAIK cannot be removed. You also should not fit seat covers, unless they are specifically designed for side airbags, as the seats have them inside them.

Re: Installing seat covers

I believe I read somewhere that the head rests can be removed - i can't remember where but the gist of it was to unsnap the back of the seat and access the headrest slide - as I recall there is a screw that stops the slide coming out. Remove that and they can be slid all the way up and out.

Re: Installing seat covers

I just installed a pair of black sheep skin seat covers to the front seats that are specifically made as side airbag compatible. eBay seller based in Melbourne for $275. Each side came in 2 pieces. 1 piece for the main seat section and 1 piece for the headrest.
Had some difficulty getting the main seat section to fit over the headrest, but slow and steady got them there in the end by starting at the side of the headrest and pushing/pulling to the side etc.
Really happy with the quality. Good tight fit. Only downside was that it took the seat warmers longer to heat through, but once warm, retained heat better.
