Re: Insurance Rip Off

I found that Coles was Cheaper than Woolworths!

There are some major variations in quoted price here...what is going on! I was looking at Suncorp who claim to offer new for old for the life of the vehicle.

But its too late for me as I have already got insurance with NRMA...you have to have had insurance with Suncorp from the time you purchased to qualify.

From what I can gather Ive been ripped off with NRMA...some quotes here are half of what I pay... I have full no claims...over 40...blah blah...but yet the premium is premium.

After two years( NRMA new for old range) I will go elsewhere like the Coles or Woolies.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Interesting to note that according to Wikipedia Suncorp owns GIO, AAMI, APIA, Just Cars Insurance, Shannons, Insure My Ride, Vero, Terri Schoer, Bingle, CIL, Asteron & Tyndal insurances companies in Australia.
So much for competition.
Regards, John

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Just posted this is the everything seems to go Aus thread.
Thought I would post it here too in an insurance specific thread.

I just a bunch of Insurance quotes, all the same extras, hire car, windscreen etc..:
A big point for all, is make sure you do your quotes on line, not over the phone, it i always far cheaper.
I had to call Allianz, as it would not process a quote for my post code due to the fires. This stoppage got lifted just before I called them so I did it online as well as on phone, and it was $328 more over the phone.

Woolworths (replace car for 12 months) $881, excess $600
GIO Platinum (replace car for lifetime) $967, excess $650
AAMI (replace car for 24 months) $1,119, excess $625
Allianz (replace car for 24 months) $1,151, excess $850
Coles, don't know about car replacement $1287, excess $850

Youi (AKA- you have got to be fkn kidding me) $2500, excess - who cares, I'm not 23 years old in a VL Turbo Maaaaaate.

Woolworths gives an extra 4c per litre off at Woolys fuel. Based on loose numbers, 18,000km per year, 10Lt per 100km = 1,800lt of fuel. So that equals $72 saved in fuel, so basically makes the insurance $809.

I think I will pay the extra $158 per year for GIO Platinum. The Life Time new for old car replacement is great, and I think they are more likely to be on top of it in a situation.

I am curios, is anyone aware of their insurance policy that has a hire car provision covering them if the car brakes down instead of being in an accident?

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Just a quick update on this.
Well, I ended up going with Bingle. It seems they are owned by Suncorp anyway which gives me confidence they are solid. They are online only, I guess that is how they keep it so cheap. The next best price was 40% more!

We tried numerous times to get AAMI to come to the party, but in the end they did nothing. I must say I'm very disappointed in their treatment of loyal customers who've never made a claim...

Sad to say but there is no concept of customer loyalty in these big corporations anymore and no one has any authority to make decisions that suit individuals.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

I tried Bingle after you listed them, then an ad came on too.
$1200 something, so one of the worst for me.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

OK, so lucky I'm with AAMI (corny). ok, got my renewal in the mail today, luckily the premiums remained the same as the initial@$687! pa for comprehensive

After reading the thread, I was hesitant to stay with them if my premiums jump to over $1k...

One of the primary factors I consider when selecting insurance is the ability for me to choose the repairer, rather than have the insurer use their lowest bidder. Is this a consideration for anyone else? How does the right to choose your own repairer affect premiums discussed in this thread?

Re: Insurance Rip Off

I decided to do Woolworths for the first 12 months at $834 (inc 20 days car hire cover).
Then I will switch to GIO Platinum to keep the Lifetime replacement.
