Re: Insurance Rip Off

After 30yrs in general insurance I've heard it all. With vehicle insurance it is a statistics game so it pays to shop around. However there is always devil in the detail.
I always look for:
if there are age exclusions make sure it doesn't apply to service staff or potentially any younger family members that "may" drive
windscreen or window glass nil excess option
geographic exclusions eg off road exclusions

For me this year I've gone with QBE Direct via this link;
Car Insurance - 20% off online quotes | QBE Insurance Australia

Substantial saving over all the majors and the minnows. But it will vary depending on your location and cover selection

A single policy with progressive is not competetive, but add two vehicles and wow (but you cannot get a quote till you sign up, sinister I think)
Depends on your circumstances, age, at fault, ncb etc and insured driver. Definitely worth shopping around EVERY year and negotiate!! Also test using your neighbours address as it usually differs - if so question why, and use it to back you up in negotiations.

Big players like qbe don't bend over for you most times.

My insurance renewal just came in the mail. Suncorp wants $1200! A quick ring around and AAMI comes back with $690. Done.

Yep, RACQ wanted $1200 from me too, most insurers were over $1k. NRMA came in at $686. I don't get the big premium on this car, all my other cars have always been around $600.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

My SRT is $1300 from Allianz. Funny thing is, it is $100 cheaper than the CRD Overland.
There is a HUGE Sydney tax on car insurance.

I reckon your spot on there.
Wife is an intensive care paramedic down here in Tas and she told me due to the ageing population demographic we get on average cheaper premiums. Be the only bloody thing... I've paid less for a carton of Cascade on the big island, same for cheeses and salmon.

Cheers

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Doing my research prior to picking up the new GC late August, ranging from $900 (QBE, AAMI, $500 excess) to $1840 (Woolworths, $500 excess).

All my insurances are currently with AAMI, but their excess for unlisted drivers pales in comparison to QBE (e.g. $1400 v $200 additional). Most other things all the same, one free glass replacement per year / etc.

Exactly. Plus what appears to be a lack of tech support from Cheap Australia would make repairers hesitant to take on work where significant damage was involved.

Has anyone even heard of an Australian factory service manual being available outside the dealer network?

For that to happen, there would have to be a manual within the dealer network, and with some of the repair methods being talked about in the other threads, it's highly probable no such manual exists.
