Re: Insurance Rip Off

Currently getting quotes on 2014 Laredo 4x2. (Sunshine Coast)

Seems obvious to me that the priority should be the length of time they provide car rental. Good chance a repair could take many MANY weeks with parts like rocking horse shite.

Alliance......$570, excess $675, windscreen, rental car = 14 days
QBE.......... $625, excess $600, windscreen, rental car = 14 days
AAMI.........$628, excess $600, windscreen, rental car = unlimited ($90/day),
Suncorp.....$815, excess $600, windscreen, rental car = 14 days
RACQ.......$1030, excess $600, windscreen, rental car = 14 days

Question I had was regarding new car replacement options.
Do you insure for the DA price or at the price you paid?

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Here's an angle having just been through a "new for old" replacement. Basically, the Insured Value doesn't affect you receiving a new vehicle if yours is written off... unless you lie about the price you paid. It's irrelevant what the replacement vehicle costs the insurer, within reason. They usually cut a deal and pay less than you anyway.

Arguably, having an excessive Insured Value could result in the vehicle being repaired when it could have otherwise been written off. This can be an unwanted result from adding heaps of accessory value too. I'm not stating a fact here, but listening to the assessor discuss my vehicle I certainly got this impression.

AAMI seems too cheap for truly unlimited. Double check that this is for "at fault" claims, as this is where Allianz' wording had technicalities we missed. Basically, if it eventuated that it wasn't the Police finding that the other driver was at fault, we'd have had to pick up the tab. Interesting stuff... because that report is still pending maybe some ten weeks later!

Cheers,
Steve

I can confirm thats exactly what happens. Going thru it right now. Vehicle was over insured and resulted in repairs proceeding even though cost of repairs and vehicle worth were about $500 difference.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Give coles ins. A go underwritten from wesfarmers. Transferred everything over to them that was with racv. Racv make your premiums look cheap by giving all the multi policy and membership discounts that actually mean nothing. I saved several hundred and more

For Qld the Alliance policy says a rental car is covered for any ' insured incident '. An ' insured incident ' is defined as "an accident or occurence which you did not intend or expect to happen". Excludes the usual war, flood etc. Can't find anything about who was a fault.

So the policy covers unlimted days up to $90/day until the car is repaired. Hard to go past that offer especially with Jeep parts situation. I can get a rental car for $69/day all up.

The comment above about AAMI and their quality of repairs has me concerned though.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

OT a little but just got my home and contents renewal from Budget Direct.
Premium went from $1000 to $1500.

Would not budge when I called them to query it.

I don't live in a flood or bush fire risk area.

Haven't sought other quotes yet but will.

On the Jeep, I reversed the RHR along a wall and trashed the guard.

After I stopped crying, AAMI response was terrific, repaired quickly and rental car included. More than happy with them.
