Re: Insurance Rip Off

Ooops... I should have been more specific. Ours was the Allianz broker package and it has its own PDS... so the particulars could vary.

I'd definitely have that policy on my shortlist given the hire car provisions. I think my problems with Allianz were due to the morons in the Perth office.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Thanks for clarifying.

I've gone with AAMI.

AAMI....$628, excess $600, windscreen/window glass, rental car = unlimited ($90/day)

There's also a 2 year new car replacement.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Have rates gone up across the board a decent amount?

I planned on switching from Woolworths to GIO Platinum to get the new car replacement for life option, and freaked with the result.

Last year’s Quotes:
Woolworths (replace car for 12 months) $791.40, excess $600 inc 20 days of hire car replacement
GIO Platinum (replace car for lifetime) $967, excess $650
AAMI (replace car for 24 months) $1,119, excess $625
Allianz (replace car for 24 months) $1,151, excess $850
Coles, don't know about car replacement $1287, excess $850
Bingle, can't remember exact details $1,200+

Today, same details as 10 months ago:
Woolworths: $1,147.85
GIO: $1,251.16
AAMI: $1,227.74
Allianz: $1,032.57
Coles: $909.00
Bingle: $1.269.61

Edit: I added another 3 quotes, maybe it is just a Woolworths & GIO thing.
One thing that will skew the results is the value of the car. Where possible I made it the same $65,000 as last year, but a couple didn’t have that option, and it was originally listed as $56,000 by those that did.

Snuke

Humour me,

try

a) a different number house in your street
b) a few streets over

If the prices vary, then someone has claimed against that company in last 24 months, and you know have inherited and artificial tax based on supposed (read bulldust) risk

You can often verbally negotiate this down

I am semi rural, not suburban, so a few streets is like a different suburb for most.
I will try it later though for shits and giggles.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

So my Woolworths renewal just came through, it has gone from $815.38 last year to $892.12 for the forthcoming 12 months.
Interesting price rise, especially considering they value my car at $8,015 less than a year ago.

I did try a few weeks ago with a different address, 1 house up the road for GIO – $1,149.82. So $101.34 less.
Now to see what GIO Platinum will really cost me.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

A couple of weeks ago over here there was a story in the news about hikes in premiums due to an explosion in the numbers of Third-party claims & payouts - left with the feeling it will get worse

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Be very careful in dealing with Allianz. Another vehicle I have is a modified Toyota 4 Runner. It has a larger engine, different gear box and every accessory imaginable. All have been professionally modified with engineer's compliance certificates. Allianz have gladly taken my premiums for over 20 years with never a claim on this vehicle. Mods were done approx 15 years ago. This year they sent me a letter stating that I wasn't being invited to reapply for insurance cover due to these modifications. Happy to take premiums when it suits them though! What they don't factor in is that I was looking at pricing all of my insurances including several properties, three cars and two motor bikes. Their lack of customer service led me not to invite them to quote on the rest of my policies.

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Yep - only thing to do is vote with your feet. Long story but after the way Shamnons treated my brother in law when their house was damaged in the blue mountains fires last year my extended family removed 9 cars and 3 houses from their books. And worst of all my bil is a fiery and probably saved many houses from going up in smoke - thus saving the insurance companies millions.
