Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Yeah I Googled and sourced the big quoted bit, but I still didn't find the bit about routing EGR to assist the burn.

As I mentioned earlier, I was sure I had read EGR is closed off. Whilst not the website I'd previously visited, this lengthy dialogue states:

" The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is closed as the use of EGR lowers exhaust gas temperatures and therefore makes it difficult to achieve the regeneration temperature in the particulate filter."

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/dies...ulate-filters/

There's several other sites and .pdf publications with the same info.

Cheers,
Steve

Ok, you may be correct, I'd assumed they were utilising the high NOx content in the EGR to oxidise the dpf. Having read the wiki egr entry it seems that the EGR does cool the combustion temps, and not only results in cooler exhaust output, but also reduces NOx, and increases soot content.

I wonder if an aggressive EGR valve is resulting in higher soot clogging in the DPFs?

Also have found a few sources that suggest the EGR is blocked under WOT and heavy load conditions, which may be increasing exhaust temps and NOx output, and performing more passive regen and less soot content?

Maybe driving it like you stole it could help....

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Closing the EGR during a regen would make more sense to me....

And yes, driving it like you stole it may well be at least part of the answer... at least occasionally. The thing which worries me is a number of owners seeing their first regen message often at quite low mileage, so they try to do the highway speeds, get nowhere with that and end up in limp mode.

I'm not seeing much mention of DPF problems on caravanners forum- yet, though they are certainly starting to appear.

just driving out of woolworths supermarket and up pops filter full drive at hyw speed to regen....so off I go at a crawl max 70klm an hour that all it will do with pedal to the floor....it did not clear so after 20klm i limped back to a dealer (warrnambool ) he took it for an hour and said he has a special tool to burn it off....after I drove away he said he has had a few new MY14 with same problem.and he used a lot of my diesel to clear the filter....said the problem was too much stop start in the delivery process.....I do not think that is the problem as it gives no time to clear and I had a few days before done 1200klm on hyw's....

Maybe, just maybe, towing a van works the engine harder, higher EGT's, and less unburnt soot.
Fingers crossed- I will be doing a lot of towing with mine.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

The interaction with the EGR at idle certainly highlights how too much idling can be resulting in clogged dpfs very quickly.

My take on the lack of regen burn despite highway driving is poor programing, or sensor problems. It seems there is also an issue where some cars are going into limp mode even when the filter is actually fairly clear, again, probably bad sensors or the ecu misreading data (sounds like the sand 4wd serv issue all over again).

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Does anyone know if there is a fuel additive on the market which can assist with DPF cleaning???? Sure as hell would make sense to try something of this nature.

Penrite does a diesel fuel additive, but I have never tried it. I just use BP Ultimate Diesel, never had a DPF issue, but mine is a MY12.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

You should not need any additives to control the DPF issue.
The problem is with the car components and possibly with the computer program.

All you need to do is use good quality fuel, and the correct specification oil.
Jeep will 'eventually' resolve the issue, so that burning off the soot is done when required, as opposed to throwing a warning, then immediately going into limp mode.

Hmmm.... my wife drives a total of 3km 5 days a week. On the odd occasion it might get up to 5km. Then on the weekend she will drive about 6km to go shopping. All of this done in peak periods witj a top speed if lucky of 60km/h for short spurts. We do drive up the coast every month, and we have traveled to canberra and sydney from brisbane. .... and all without dpf issues. (We will probably have one this weekend now). I would have thought that we would be right at the top of the list of having issues because of all the slow short trips. However it seems to be the opposite.
The advertising pamphlet mentions that its not covered by the warranty, they would, they're trying to sell you their product.
DPF's aren't as big an issue as they are made out to be. It's just that those that experience an issue come to a place like this to seek advice and or consultation on what is normal. I'd like to know the ratio of problem DPF to No problem.
