Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I towed in all three modes and I'd have to say it didn't seem to make much difference. (This should probably now move to the towing thread).

What I can say is that at the 93km/h that I typically drove at on the single lands roads (with no shoulder) of western Qld the car sat in 7th gear almost all the time.

Moving up to smoother, wider roads and the speed closer to 100km/h it would move to 8th and get slight better fuel economy.

Up the long Toowoomba range the transmission and engine got hot (I think all cars do - they just don't have 'honest' gauges that show a 10 - 20 degree difference) but the car managed it all with aplomb. No issues at all - of course it got hot.

Cheers
Andrew.

Just makes it easier for people to find info when it is in the right thread.... and prevents other threads from getting filled up with irrelevant discussion.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I think the reason this issue has gone quiet on the forum is there are a number of vehicles sitting in dealers yards waiting on replacement DPF filters to arrive ex US, mine being one, part should be in Cairns next week. From what I'm hearing this issue is far from resolved. No ones saying much, still the old "we don't know yet".

It appears to me from the couple of failures I encountered that the system was failing to do either a passive or an active regen, basically into "limp home mode" with little or no warning, hence the filter so badly blocked it has to be replaced. This Jeep had done very minimal slow speed short runs, mainly highway and towing a boat some distance. Sounds to me more a sensor/software/mapping problem.
Will keep you posted of the outcome next week,
Cheers,

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Actually my wife just got hit with this issue on her way to work today (Western US - Idaho). The warning came up yesterday so she drop approx 25 miles at 55-65mph last night. She got no more than 5 miles this morning when it locked down and she had to drive 30-35mph to the dealer (25 miles away).

She was not very happy. I sure hope this is a software issue.

Thanks.

The DPF problems seem to apply to the MY14, those with the older models seem to be ok. Hopefully the flash update has done the trick....

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Here's an update, I see that Nicko has had a replacement ordered, was there another owner with a replacement?

Missionman Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite recent highway driving (2 occurences)
Fatboy Exhaust system required message my13 trailhawk
Fireball Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite being at highway speed 1900kms Nov 2013
Chooke Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite being at highway speed May 2013 (2 occurences)
Peanut Filter nearly full message then limp mode. (2 occurences, Jeep is replacing dpf)
Twscoot Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite recent highway driving 6000kms April 13 (No problems since manual burn)
ansamoiz filter nearly full message but couldn't get to a highway before limp mode kicked in 4189kms July 2013
mbro filter nearly full message but couldn't get to a highway before limp mode kicked in 1300kms Dec 2013?
A10-6 filter nearly full message but couldn't get to a highway before limp mode kicked in 1600kms July 2013
Dreamer filter nearly full message but couldn't get to a highway before limp mode kicked in 14,000kms April 13
fforacing Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite recent highway driving 6,500kms June 13
gsw80 Went straight into limp mode despite highway driving 7,500kms June 2013
Jarrid filter nearly full message but couldn't get to a highway before limp mode kicked in 17,000kms July 2013
Nicko limp mode with no warning 8,000kms June 2013 (2 Occurences, replacement DPF ordered)
nmcglynn Filter nearly full message then limp mode despite recent highway driving 2800kms (2 occurences, Jeep is replacing dpf)
burger Filter 100% then limp mode, no warnings 16,500kms April 2013 (EVIC has no recorded burns!)

So a member over at AJOR has a brother who had 2 DPF limp modes despite highway driving, on the 2nd occasion the dpf wouldn't clear with a forced regen. Must have been something jammed in there. So Jeep Oz got them to order a new DPF and that seems to have fixed it. It was Sept 2013 build.

>>>>>>>

Seems to me there are a few issues here, some of those who have had manual burns have been fine.... so far. Others have had reoccurences and in which case either the flash gets applied, or the dealer orders a new DPF. In one of those cases the manual regen failed to clear the blockage, wonder if this is what happened with Nickos?

Yeah, Zybane also had the issue, and dieselgirl also reported it. Doesn't seem as prevalent as the Oz problems, but then again the diesels probably aren't as prevalent in the US anyway.....

Aaawwwwww If this happened to my wife while I was interstate for business I would never, EVER, hear the end of it.

After our forgetful experience of the WJ (2000 - Limited V8) JGC ownership, I have finally got my wife convinced into purchasing another JGC because, "Jeep have improved in all areas now compared to our 'ol WJ honey!.... Ya gotta believe me....... They're great, reliable cars now!"

But how can I risk what has just happened to Vorpel? It would be the end of my life as I know it

I understand and appreciate that when running properly the CRD is a brilliant engine. However this DPF "issue".... well??? ...I may have to go with the 5.7 HEMI and visit the Petrol Station more often; just for piece of mind

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Our Limited went into limp home mode on Sunday, wife rang roadside, car was towed to dealer on Tuesday where they performed a manual regen. Car returned on Tuesday afternoon after some confusion with the service reception (was told ours needed a new ECU!!!. Turned out to be someone elses thankfully). Wife has taken it to Cairns for the weekend with no further issues (fingers crossed).

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Update - Dealership did a manual regen and that cleared the issue. Service rep told me that he believed it was a software issue, and they updated everything. This was our first service since taking it home back in mid November (also did tire rotation and oil change).

It isn't a fun experience, but to me (and my wife) it is so outweighed by all the positives. Lately with 60/40 highway/stop & go traffic we have been getting 25.5mpg. When we do 80/20 it goes up to 27mpg. You just can't beat that mileage with that towing capability with that luxury (Summit). No regrets at all.

Good luck, and hopefully it was just a software issue...!
