WTF!!! I wonder if I can use that as an excuse if I get done speeding.... 'Officer, the service center chick said I had to speed or the car would break down'....

It seems the actual number is 50mph, Excursion Diesel has given a good run down on the behaviour he has seen during regen in this thread:

exhaust system regeneration process

Quote:
I watched a regen triggered on a short drive where I exceeded 50mph for maybe a minute. I proceeded through sitting at stop lights and driving 45 or less in town then pulling into a parking lot. It held 1000+ F the whole time. 2 minutes of idling kicked it out and temps fell quickly. Normal idle fuel flow is 0.2 to 0.3 GPH and it was 0.5 and higher during regen.
...

Believe it or not, you can keep it in regen at any speed including dead still if you can hold RPMs around 1500-1800. That's easier said than done as the turbo makes the motor try to run away. It takes extreme concentration and driving technique using the paddle shifters and going to neutral while braking to a stop light.
...

The best conditions for regen are those that hold the highest steady exhaust temperatures. I get my highest readings (1250 F) on flat ground at 50 mph but anything over 45 mph works.
In your case, I'd be ringing the service center and insisting on the update that is supposed to fix this problem, if Cricks refuse, then try another service center.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

OK so subsequent to the conversation I had with the customer care 1300 number where they said I needed to tell the dealer about some supposed update to fix the issue.....

I've sent the car in for the 20000km service today and ask the service manager about the issue now that I've had 2 dpf failed regenerations. he said there were no updates that they know of. so I ring the 1300 again and get them to talk to him. then the service manager says the way they do the manual regen now is different to the way they did my manual regen in February earlier this year and the updated way for manual regen for the last 5 months has fixed the issue, so I wouldn't get a failed regen anymore. and they haven't had others coming back for a second time.

WTF ?! I guess only time will tell whether this is true. poor girl at the desk trying the " you have to drive at 109kph story 😤😬" but in my case I've driven 10000km in the last 4 months since the last service with a lot of it between Brisbane to gold coast definitely over 109kph!

service manager says all the diesel jeeps have this issue 😕 . really inspires confidence now . and apparently there was another grand Cherokee on the way to the service department on a tow truck with the same issue this morning 😏

if it happens again that's 3 strikes by my books. the jeep is getting traded.

You should be trading your service center, they are dribbling shit!

I'd love to know how the new regen is different to the old regen..... and why Jeep knows about the update, but they don't.....

I'd ring around some other service centers and tell them you have been having the dpf issue and want this TSB applied to see if it will fix it, see if you can get someone to apply it for you:

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Why the hell is your service department making you call Jeep? That alone would make me never use them again unless there were simply no other alternatives. It is there damn job to know what is going on and what fixes are available. If they don’t know, get on the fkn phone themselves and learn. Stop this bloody Chinese whispers crap.
You are paying them money to fix your car (scheduled service not this DPF thing), they are supposed to be professional, time they acted that way.
He is clearly a moron if he thinks this is just normal for the CRD GCs. As you can see by the reduction in posts in this and other treads of it happening, it is not a common problem. I have no confidence in your service manager and would not let him attempt to inflate my tyres.

So Cricks Mansfield service is crap, from what I've read Albion and Moorooka are no good, I'm going to have to drive to the Gold Coast and spend the day on the beach every 6 months.....

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

i wasn't impressed with sthport jeep either.
-they scratched my car putting in the rock sliders. (they did fix it though by sending it to the panel beaters )
-they denied my warranty on the steering wheel when i had the thread coming off the wheel. not only did they deny the warranty they snipped the thread close to the wheel (whereas i left it dangling so it wouldn't come out any further) guess what... after they snipped it the thread came further out basically fobbed me off and said why don't you go back to the dealer you bought the car from
-so no i wouldn't go back to them. cricks fixed the steering wheel thread

at least going to cricks it maintains the 6yr warranty. at this rate the car is going to need it

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I'm not putting too much faith in that extended warranty, especially when they can't even apply a TSB for the dpf issue.

Maybe Springwood or Albion.....

Well the wife calls me this afternoon as she is on the way to the hairdresser and tells me the Jeep smells funny and a message has come up saying "regen in progress, DPF 80% full", and during the length of the conversation about 3 min it managed to drop to 40%. I asked her if she was on the motorway, and she says, no im on my way to Wilston no motor way on the way. I asked what speed she was doing, and she tells me she hasnt been able to get past 50km/h most of the way, topping at 60km/h.
She was never prompted to travel at highway speeds. She later called and told me she was sitting in traffic and it kept counting down in lots of 10%. I guess thats a forced regen?, and highway speeds are not required.

It's an active regen, need a witech to force a regen.

I'm thinking (and I'm only guessing) that since the TSB for this issue has been applied they have changed the message to remove the get to a highway bit. You really just need to keep revs up above idle 1500+

Yeah thats what I meant. Active regen. Being in Rockhampton for a week makes you mix thoughts with words
