From what I can tell it looks like the software update has helped. I don't think anyone has reported a failure since applying the TSB. But you can still get physical problems with sensors and filters not being able to regen....

... and I believe that Jeep Australia could provide for all vehicles to be checked by suitably trained staff for this potential, thus eliminating roadside failures. However JA have instead chosen to address the problem one at a time as CRDs are hauled in on tilt trays.

Do you think tilt trays and bad PR have no cost? Just saying 😉

Economics, PR cost very little until DPF issue reported in main stream media

Yeah, I don't know the dpf issue is widespread enough to justify checking every car. I know its an inconvenience, but at least they do fix it.

From my perspective this is just one of those things I have to live with the possibility of occurring for having such a great car at such a great price.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Just had a report from a friend in the US who had the dreaded DPF error.

"Turns out the diesel particulate filter has a non stick coating on the inside that has been failing (not sticking and falling off the inside of the filter) and clogging the system so even thought the car is doing dpf regens it can't burn off the high temp coating therefore clogging the filter and sending vehicles into limp mode. I brought mine in before it limped but it was a matter of days before I would have been stranded.

Talking to the tech they replaced the entire exhaust system front to rear including sensors. The new DPF has no interior coating so he says we should be good to go. There's no recall or TSB yet but he said it's just a matter of time before they have to replace all of them."

Our lease will be up before the parts become available I suspect.

Great info, there have been suggestions about coatings causing the problem, but that it was a temporary coating that had to be burnt off.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Hi all, great to see people are experiencing same issue as me.. 2014 CRD 3.0 ltr Laredo My message appeared as I was entering a motorway South of Sydney. Throttle message appeared about 15 seconds later. This was at 18000k. Seemed to have lasted a bit longer than some. Service told me it was dependent on my driving style or fuel I used. I've always used a Caltex woolies station. Every 2 months I drive to Cootamundra once - 4 hrs highway each way and to sussex inlet about 3 times - 2hrs highway each way. Does anyone have any driving hints to activate a regeneration or is it a software issue. Would be good if there was some period between recieving message about the filter and slipping into limp mode. Wife is concerned and doesnt want to go off road any more also.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

It is believed this software update does help avoid the dpf issue:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1801814d.pdf

I don't believe fuel is an issue, but Jeep do think it is contributing to this problem. However, other cars with dpfs seem to work on the same fuel, and with the number of GC failures, it doesn't seem likely they all have bad fuel.

I try to do a 1-2 hour highway run every 2 weeks, this should be enough to trigger a regen if the dpf needs it.

Had you been driving on the highway recently before the problem occurred?

For most owners, a forced regen performed by the service center is enough, and it works fine from then on. Others have had a 2nd failure, and if you push your service center (and sometime you have to log a call with Jeep head office) they will normally replace the dpf under warranty.

I haven't heard of the dpf failure occurring while offroading, but anyone could be unlucky enough I guess.
