Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I spoke to my dealer (Brisbane southside) the other day who said there was no DPF update to fix the problem. He did say Jeep Was working on a software fix for possible release Feb 2015. Believe it when I see it.

im usually not that pedantic, but since the dealer has acted a bit shady already, think its time for me to be more proactive - still researching myself, but can someone give me a quicklist of the critical fixes/recalls that should have been done?

Cheers
I do a lot of short trips in my Jan 2014 build LTD Diesel, I don't think that is a problem, the regen should trigger when you do drive on the highway. I take mine out for a run every 2-3 weeks, but I haven't seen any indication yet that a regen is occurring.

And I don't believe there are any really 'critical' updates for the MY14. I did have the traction control recall done, and I had experienced that issue. Unless you have symptoms, then I wouldn't be asking for updates to be applied. Here's the list:
Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2011-2016 Grand Cherokee Service Bulletins and Recalls

The latest rumour is that the problem is caused by the oil level being slightly too high, it prevent the regen from starting. But for these cars that have a problem at low kms, I think it is likely there is something stuck in the dpf (there has been suggestions of a protective coating causing clogged dpf) that isn't clearing. Often a manual regen fixes it, somethimes the service dept will find that even after a manual regen, the issue remains and they have to replace the dpf.

edit: I wouldn't be too hard on your dealer, this is a tricky issue, and it doesn't seem to affect everyone.

cheers for the replies. yeh, dealer is good. tried hard. also, updated transmission, PCM and uconnect - why wasnt this done when car was delivered a week ago?

overall - its just the lack of info was pissing me off

how come we dont get the diesel supplement manual? there is nothing in the manual about this stuff, and the warning "Exhaust Filter XX% Full Safely Drive at Highway" is pretty alarming when you've never owned a modern diesel before... especially as the message remains in limp mode. so as new owner, i was confused whether to stick my boot into it to try clear the fault.. while in limp mode and stuck in 3rd. pull over, read the manual, nothing..........

consider myself technically minded. would be happy with if one of the 20x times i asked the sales and service guys.. one of them said - "yes, once a month, hold revs +2,500rpm at 100km/h on the freeway for 10 minutes to regen the exhaust filter"

anyway, hoping my experience is 1-off due to new car start-stop on the lot before delivery.

forums are good. lots of info. paid small donation

I disagree with having to modify your driving style to suit a regen. All the other manufacturers can design the exhaust system to regen standing still or at idle, why can't Jeep?

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Yeah, I don't think you should have to hold revs, from what some of the US guys have found with an ODB2 monitor, holding revs didn't seem to affect the regen process. It should just be a matter of building engine temp and continuous driving over 60-80kph for 20 mins or so. Then if the system detects back pressure in the dpf it should start a regen.

edit: some have reported the regen process seemed to continue even driving in stop start traffic. Just when they were stationary at idle for ~2 mins then it seemed to stop, going by their cat sensor temps.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Hi all,
Just had my first DPF failure on Boxing Day at 40 000km,car serviced 3weeks ago. Previous, and only, DPF burn 4weeks ago. Dash informed of burn happening and although in city traffic completed its cycle.(woo hoo!)
However, just prior to that, had done some beach driving and on level sand had the low oil alarm on take off.(car working a bit hard) Restarted car, all good.
Car will be at dealers tomorrow totally stuffing holiday plans.
Oil is sounding like it might be a culprit?

Check your oil level and report back. Maybe a photo of the dip stick?

Checked oil after car has been sitting for 2.5 days. First removal the dipstick read Min then after dipping level came to 3mmish under Max

The correct way to check your oil is to wait overnight, pull the dipstick, wipe it off and then insert again. Pulling it out to check it again will then show you your actual level.

There do seem to be a lot of reports of dpf regen failure just after a service.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I just checked my oil level, after 5 checks each show the oil level well above the MAX mark, about 1.5 inches over. Motor is cold. Might have to call the service center next week....
