Hi Bert85,

Just out of curiosity, have you actually had the latest software update applied and had a subsequent DPF related issue?

Thanks

This would suggest no...

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Hi, Just had the dreaded message. No warning and now in limp mode. 40,770km on the clock. Second time it has happened.
A bit concerned as i mainly do highway driving at 80-100kph.
Only last 100km CBD speeds.

Guy in the service department at Jeep is going to talk to the tech guy and thinks that there is a way to solve over the phone?
Is this possible? I think not, otherwise there would be post about by now.
I will check out the update mentioned above and see if helps.
With only two occurrences in 40k i am lucky.
Glad it didnt happen this weekend coming as i am away camping up North.
Hope they can fix in time!

Like many others, I'm extremely frustrated after continued occourances (five) of the same issue and a lack of customer service from Jeep Australia.

Cheers

What a detailed thread on this issue. Some folks over there really know their stuff digging into the problem.

Is the exhaust system different on the exports vs. the NA models? I don't seem to see a significant report of this particular issue on the NA EcoDiesels.

The NA version has a small tank of Urea ("Ad Blue") which is injected into the exhaust, as necessary to reduce the NOx emissions (it reacts with Ammonia). This will also reduce the soot more efficiently as it oxidises with NO2 at a much lower temperature compared to burning the soot with free oxygen in the heated DPF. The reservoir lasts about 10,000miles and can be refilled.

This is called selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The control system for it is quite complex with NOx sensors, O2 sensors, more temperature sensors, a particulate matter (PM) sensor and also the differential pressure across the DPF.

It's actually a lot more complex than just injecting a bit of diesel into the exhaust and burning it off for 10minutes every 500km or so.
I'm not sure it is better? Certainly it is an added cost.

There are still issues with the DPF's in Amercian WK2's as well.

Edit: The NA versions still do the active regen with diesel injection the same as the Export version. The fastest way to burn off the soot is with a high temperature burn 550-650 C.

I guess having the SCR system might help to reduce the rate of soot accumulation when it is operating but the primary function of the SCR is for the NOx reduction.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

There have been a few reports from NA owners of the dreaded limp mode. Its a bigger problem over there because the dealers don't know much about the diesels and many don't (or didn't) know how to force a regen. So the car sat for days in dealers service centers before they could work out how to fix it.

Sorry to hear you have been hit so many times with this one. It sounds like you live a fair way out of town, so makes this issue even worse for you.

It isn't clear yet if the latest software patch does actually fix the problem, but it is the best response I've seen to the problem so far. I haven't had the problem yet myself, but I've been concerned that it might hit me at an inconvenient time. In the end its something I'm willing to live with to drive a car I like to drive. But if you are a long way from a dealer, then maybe a toyota or nissan is a safer bet.

My ODB ii dongle is one of the cheap duds - wont read the custom parameters. It's time to get a decent one. The one Steve mentioned is out of stock at the Aus distributors, does anyone have this working on a different dongle or is ebay my only option?

cheers

The cheap OBDII dongles will be able to read any of the available parameters, exactly the same as the expensive ones.

You just have to enter the correct parameter (PID) into the App that is doing the scanning (ie "Torque" or whatever you use).

OK, The cheap ones might be a little bit less reliable with the bluetooth connection. They also stay "ON" and drain power from the battery when left plugged in.

The OBDLink MX i have is out of stock where i bought it, yes, but the LX version is pretty much the same and cheaper.

The LX was out of stock when i went looking so i ended up with the MX.

"Barboots" (Steve) is using the cheap ebay ELM327 one i think.

Yeah mine is the cheap black one. Cost $10 delivered and shipped out of Melbourne. I had it in Perth within the week. No limitations other than those mentioned.

Cheers,
Steve
