Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

i bought a new Laredo 5 weeks ago and after a 2500klm trip on highways,it went into linp mode and said drive at h/w speed to correct....it would not go over 70 so after 30 minutes I went to dealer and he said he has had a few new MY14 come back with this problem ...he then kept it for an hour and all fixed and said it was the delivery on / off that does it and they used a lot of fuel from my car to correct this.
I am starting to wish I had not bought this Jeep ,I like to go way out bush and now what happens when this starts again in the middle of nowhere.
its a 2013 MY14 bought it in feb .

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Well I think Jeep will find a fix for this. It seems a few have been told by Jeep Australia that the fix is to replace the dpf. And so far it looks like the problem is limited to certain build dates. So it may have just been a bad batch of dpfs and a fix may be available. Hopefully!

Also, how many kms were on it when you had the problem. Let us know when you get back. Enjoy your trip.

What about you guys (quote above). Has a new DPF fixed your problem now?
I think only Chooke has been told his dpf will be replaced. And he is waiting on the part. There was a post over at Aus Jeep Off road where they knew 2 owners who had the problem, and says both were told the dpf needed to be replaced. Waiting for details on that. I'll post them here is provided.

2,500 klm mostly hwy driving....the guy at jeep dealer used a lot of my diesel to burn it off and said he has had a few others in for same reason and it a very small dealer (warrnambool )not many jeeps down there.but they know about the problem and say its the delivery stop start !!!!
I think that's not true as my car should have burnt it off as I just did 1,400klm at over 100klm thru country NSW.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

We'll done about 140km since getting it back and fuel tank still reading full with 790km till empty. So if we can keep driving it while it makes it's own diesel I'm happy. If it goes limp mode again they can either replace the DPF and sensors or the whole car, because I won't be taking anything less.

100% correct. Blaming delivery stop start is BS.

The Jeep mechanic that worked on mine did say that the 8 speed box doesn't allow the revs to get high enough and clogs the filters up. This is why he said to drive in manual mode once every couple of weeks in manual mode. I still think it's BS and I shouldn't have to do this or blaming pre delivery as I had also driven from Surfers Paradise to Sydney at Highway speeds since taking delivery of the car, so one would think it would have done a burn.
On another note, I took it out on the sand dunes at Blacksmiths on the weekend with the standard 20's and road tyres, and it performed surprisingly well. I did get service air suspension warning after a couple of big hits, but QL suspension still worked fine.
I got a lot of looks out there and many people were suprised how well it did.

What's your definition of a big hit?

Well there are 3 different methods for clearing the dpf: Passive regen which is the normal exhaust heat and pressure burning off 'some' trapped soot, active regen which is the ECU deciding the filter is filling up and it should enter regen mode (must be at highway speed) which does post injection of fuel into the exhaust to get it up to 550c, and then there is the service center regen which does the same thing as the active regen, but the car doesn't have to be at highway speed.

So the mechanic may be correct about passive regen, the 8 speed may not do as much of that. But it should be able to get into active regen mode if you are on the highway. Now if he is right and the low revs are an issue here, then the ECU should be controlling the gears and keeping the revs up during the regen. That would be a Jeep design fault, but I don't believe the high revs are required, regen mode should post inject fuel and get the temps up.

Thanks Benn0 Looking forward to hearing about it.

Jeep sells over 1000+ Grand Cherokees a month here in Australia (Wheels magazine, Mar '14 issue, page 35). In Dec '13 they sold 1,431 of them. In comparison Jeep sold 794 Grand Cherokees in Dec '12. So sales certainly have skyrocketed for the JGC in recent months. The JGC is now the #10 best selling car in Australia.

I's say that 60% of those sales are with the 3.0 CRD engine. From what I've read I don't believe that all of those CRD owner are reporting the DPF issue; indeed many have enjoyed trouble-free motoring.

So I'm thinking that the DPF issue may be sourced to human or engineering error during a specific period of time back at the plant. Just my guess.
