I just purchased one from here - Ali Express iCar3 wifi Vgate OBD2 Scanner

I've bought one as well, to replace my older ELM device, but can't try it at the moment as I'm away from home, not in the Jeep, (flying) for the time being.

So it goes to sleep after 30 minutes.
How does it wake up?
(The instructions say nothing about waking up.)

Does starting the car bring it back to life?
(I hope we are not going to have to unplug and re plug to wake it up, would almost defeat the purpose if so.

Thanks in advance.

Starting the car does wake the device up... I was impatient waiting for my iPad to find it via wifi one time so I unplugged and plugged it back in, which I could do just by reaching down and reseating it all from the drivers seat.. But yes, it wakes up..

I had seen an active regeneration just after the start of the trip and the DPF dropped to 8.2%, It then very steadily climbed going up .4% slowly until it reached 10.6% It was while we were driving over a fairly clear plain and it was here we encountered a fairheadwind that lasted quite some distance, To my amazement after a time the DPF % actually dropped to 10.2% and stayed there for a considerable time before resuming its steady climb. It is a section I often encounted headwinds and in my old 4.2ltr patrol, I used to nearly push the pedal through the follr to maintain and speed. I don't think a hill climb would do it unless it was a really really long hill like some on the New England tablelands.
To carry on my above story, After the trip above, we continued on with the van towards South Aust from North Queensland. I have had the van hitched up all the time and had done a further 1000 kms with the DPF % inceasing very very slowly and it had only reached 49% with no further regeneration. Unfortunately I cannot say when or if a regeneration has since taken place because the bluetooth part of the sender gave up the ghost and won't broadcast any longer.

I think this confirms what Steve has been saying that you will not usually notice a passive regeneration, it just happens slowly but seldom at a rate that exceeds the soot build up.

The Cat temperature was always up around the 400 degree or more but never as high as when a forced regeneration takes place. The exhaust temp was constantly going above 600 degrees.

I am feeling frustrated about the ELM sender giving up the ghost AND have tried to replace it along the way but the only place I could locate one was at a Supercheap and they wanted $169 for it with no indication as to whether it would auto shut off ETC. We continued on down from Hebel through Lightning Ridge and on to Gulargambone into a very heavy headwind. The fuel usage when up like the temp gauge does on occasions, and reached 17.9 ltr/100. Must say the Jeep went beautifully towing the van, I would have had the pedal pushed thru the floor of the old Patrol. All the while the ambient temp was in the low 40s. The oil temp never got above 110 degrees and the transmission was about 94 degrees. With the headwind the water temp stayed around normal. When we turned westward, the wind was behind us and the fuel usage dropped to 15.1 ltrs/100.

Note that those green things that look like curly braces in the equation are, in fact, curly braces and not parentheses.
You gents may consider giving this a try. Today I confirmed it functions as expected on my NA EcoDiesel: reads 0.0 under normal circumstances, 3.0 during active regen. If the system truly does report a passive regen, that would give a 2.0 on the readout.

To restate: this is the definitive determination of DPF regen state. It is regen state as reported directly from the ECU. No longer do you have to to watch temp gauges and guess when a regen starts or ends, even though watching gauges is really fun.

Then again, we *do* seem to have some differences in the behavior of the DPF on the NA model. I drove over 600 km at highway speeds with my DPF reading 100% full the entire time, before the system elected to trigger a regen (burned down to 9.4%, just like last time). No clue why it waited so long. No errors, no warnings, it was just apparently content to have a 100% full DPF.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I've been chatting to futuresystem about some issues I had with my OBD2 connection. I bought the following item off eBay - VGATE iCar 3 OBD2 OBD ELM327 WIFI Car Diagnostic Scan Tool ANDROID iPHONE / iPAD and I get the Service Shifter alarm every 15 secs. Has anyone had issues with this device? I connected it to a Ford Territory diesel and there were no issues.

I get that msg if I haven't quit torque and start the car although my reader is bluetooth and different to yours. Today I briefly disconnected the dongle whilst driving and that fixed it. In the past I quit and restarted torque app to fix it.
My dongle also seems to disconnect from torque when the ignition is off (it's just a cheap one of eBay) so maybe it's got something to do with torque being on at engine start up?

Except that I am using wifi and iPad. I can't use Torque as it is Android based. I'm looking for an iOS solution.

Can you try that same scenario with whatever app you are using?
What app is it?
