Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Updating my DPF saga....
Despite assurance from my dealer that all updates applicable to my Jeep have been applied, I visited them again armed with info from this forum to get written confirmation that RRT 14-104 had been applied.
I got a twofold response
(1) No, they would not give me any written assurance.
(2) The info I had obviously came from an Internet forum site should be taken with a grain of salt.

At this point I suggested in the interest of both our welfare that she calmly sit down and peruse the info I was to put before her before she made a complete fool of herself. The end result was after a hasty exit for consultation higher up, she returned to her computer to tell me that due to a failed computer or something they were not able to get the latest info from Jeep, and in fact yes, I was right they were informed only yesterday that RRT 14-104 and RRT 14-089 were now available and that they would like to update these at my earliest convenience.

Given that these RRT's have been available since Dec '14, and that the DPF issue has done so much damage to the GC reputation, why has Jeep Aus not flagged the update as an urgent priority with their dealers! I am thinking that it will be some months yet before the DPF issues die down. If it were not for this forum and the knowledge base that exists here, many more of us might have given up on a great car in frustration. Thanks guys!

Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Without this forum we would all be stuffed. Great to hear that you were able to put information from JG to good use.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Exactly, i would have been totally clueless about this problem without this forum and this thread in particular.

When buying the car i had a several "experts" advising against my choice (Prado pushers mostly) citing Jeep reliability issues, so of course my reputation was on the line for any future problems.
No one likes to be on the end of the "I told you so....." line of BS which inevitably comes shortly after.

Anyway with all this reading on the forum and and a bit of research by many of us here, myself included, now I've got almost total confidence in the DPF system in the JGC.

Actually, I'm glad it has a DPF. I really like it as long as it works. It doesn't smell and blow black s#*t like so many other supposedly "clean" modern diesels , Hyundai SantaFe, Territory, Prado, and ALL of those made in Thailand utes.

Total confidence ? Yes, almost.

My wife has taken the JGC away with friends this weekend to the Hunter Valley. The first time it's been out of my hands.

I still felt compelled to do a "soot burn" before handing it over.

It was at around 67% full, so I took it to the nearest stretch of highway took it up to 100kph for just maybe 10 seconds, the burn starts on cue.
Take the first exit U-turn and it cleans on the way back home. Cook for 10minutes and its done. 8%.

The car took 4 women + luggage +Waeco stocked with w/champagne, up there in relative comfort. - not sure if many cases of wine will fit in the back though for the return trip.

The only problem is that one of them pushed the crappy little reverse camera into the tailgate cavity - again.

Again??? How the hell was it done once, let alone twice? It is nowhere near where hands need to be.
Drunken louts.

Here here to this forumn. I have just returned from 10,000 km trip pulling 3 ton van and had a trouble free trip. The Jeep loves the hard work. I am feeling much happier with it's reliability but will monitor it closely doing shorter trips now that I am back home. I will make sure I take it for a bit of a run when the DPF percentage gets up.

First time was a ham fisted Toyota Landcruiser driver, this time Subaru Forester driver. Both of those have the release button under there.
Have to put a fluoro orange sticker with arrows to the handle.

Gonna reply to my "service reminder" letter with a not so subtle suggestion that JA should give me the proper Mopar Parksense camera as advertised. (without gridlines)

Yes, my old landcruiser would stink out the garage and puff soot everywhere, much prefer to have the dpf, as long as it works.

I did the same thing with mine the previous weekend, it was on 68% and I knew I was going to be doing a drive into the mountains for mothers day and didn't want any problems, so took it for a quick run on the highway. Went in regen as soon as I hit 100kph and finished after 15 mins. Clock work. I really wish they had filter level displayed in EVIC.

Funny that service centers complain about the information on forums, yet they are the ones who turn out wrong. The sales guy who sold me my car emailed recently to see how it was going. I said fine, but brought up this dpf issue. He had the canned response 'only affects those doing short trips'. Well no, many owners who have been on the highway for a while have had it drop into limp. Next response, 'its rare, and doesn't affect many cars', well it has hit a few cars being reviewed, and in the forum it looks like ~50%. Without the info in this forum we'd be accepting false info from the dealers.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

I have a MY12 diesel, and the exhaust pipe is as clean as the first day I bought it. This tells me that the diesel motors pre DPF were in fact clean, and the only difference between my MY12 and the MY14's is that I don't have any limp mode fails due to carbon. I would therefore assume that the introduction of DPF was a major backward step for Jeep.
My wife drives a Golf GT, which does have DPF. Her exhaust is black, although it blows no smoke. She mostly does a 4min drive to the station and back during the week. She has no issues with DPF burn failures.

All the WK2 model with the Italian VM motori diesel have a DPF. 2010-now.

I didn't know this, but even the older WK with the Mercedes diesel engine had a DPF in the USA/Canada since 2007/08.
How could it really have taken them 7 years to get it to work properly.

Just a software bug like anything else really, but with a greater impact.
