Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

Hi BennO This is the same message I had about 12 months ago on Coronation Drive before update and was prepared to head down the motorway to Goldie. In those early days I held the car in a lower gear thinking this would help and by the time I got to city that message had disappeared. I now understand I do not have to do this from recent posts and since then I have not seen on other message. It's interesting that you had message come up

We were late so I was giving it a bit of right foot. 2 mins after leaving home the obd scanner showed the filter jump to 82% full. I doubt the filter filled 16% in 2 mins, so I'm thinking the higher revs increased the pressure differential in the dpf sensors.

Anyway, EVIC pops up with the message: Exhaust system regeneration in process. Continue driving.

But I'm not on the highway, driving moggil rd and coronation drive into the city in peak hour, so sitting on 40-50kph. Stopped at half a dozen red lights, the regen continued. After 15 mins or so I was in the city almost at the restaurant and the OBD scanner says filter is 8% and the EVIC changes to Exhaust system regeneration complete.

Nice!
Sorry can you help me here, saving me doing a search? So with my memory having failed me, I'm assuming RRT14-104 is the latest, out not long ago, which superseded the Dec18 update?
I haven't had the latest one done, and don't especially want to part with my car just for that.
Have you noticed any other differences?
Thanks in advance!

I noticed after the Dec18 update, which I had done only about a month or so ago, that the downhill engine braking was quite a bit more aggressive. I've had only one regen since that update (on the highway at 100kph) and have only done about 1,200 klms total since the update was applied.

However, I find it all so reassuring having the OBD app running, thus knowing what it's up to. I rarely drive without it plugged except for very short hops.

The latest update - http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1804415.pdf still has it as RRT 14-104, no one knows what the difference is between this 18-044-15 and the one it replaced 18-019-14.

Amazing, you only caught half a dozen red lights on Moggill Rd & Coronation drive! What about about all those roadworks? or are they finished now?

Interesting so it looks like this

65%+ and >100kph = regen
70-75% and <100kph and engine temp >??C = regen
80%+ = regen with EVIC message

I had mine in for 10K service Friday.
I asked about the new RRT 14-104 and they said it didnt come up on my VIN (that seems to be the default reply though with every TSB we ask about). - so they didn't do it.
I've had the earlier one 18-019-14 done so the original RRT comes up as "applied". I asked what the difference was to 18-044-15, and no one could tell me.
The difference i assume must not be important. If it was a critical change I assume it would have different RRT no. and then everyone would have to get it done again. (with 20minutes labour cost to the warranty)

I also requested for them to look at TSB 21-012-15 transmission update and they also said it didn't come up on my VIN automatically. - so they didn't do it.

What they told me is all the outstanding "RRT's" are supposed to be applied by default at service. This is reliant on the instruction that comes up on the system when the VIN is punched in.

The "recalls" (eg P67-ORC module, P36-sunvisor etc) are also supposed to be done by default but are dependent on a availability of parts of course.

The rear camera replacement is a separate thing. they didn't have parts or the manpower - so they didn't do it.

No warning chime, I only noticed it when I looked at the speedo. As Steve says, I'd guess this comes up when you go past 80% full filter. I've been past 70% before and it regened in 60kph traffic with no evic message, but that was pre-update.

I was mainly surprised by the jump in filter reading. I wonder if this is what was causing the problem, giving it more revs (or just different driving) results in a big jump in the filter reading, and it exceeds a threshold that trigger limp mode.

Perhaps the update modifies this a bit to allow more time to perform the regen rather than going straight into limp. I'm guessing if I didn't have the update applied, this jump in filter level may have triggered a limp mode. Just a guess.

In any case it proves that you don't have to be driving on the highway regularly to perform regens. Just keep driving when it says to.

edit: the message looked like this:

The problem is that you asked for a TSB to be looked at, rather than a problem. If you do that, then they will do as they did, check your VIN, see no outstanding TSB and move on.
What you need to do is say that you have such and such problem, I described both the ECO off issue and the lack of downshifting on hills with cruise control, two items listed on the TSB and gave them the TSB as well. That way you have said you have a problem, now they can apply the TSB and claim the work back form Jeep Aus. If they don't have a problem or VIN request to apply it against, then they have no way to claim the job from Jeep Aus.

I did ... sort of..... it was early and I hadn't had a coffee yet.. so who knows what I actually asked for.
I had it printed with arrows marking ECO-button, 3-2, 2-1 shift bump etc etc

They rang up to asking me to come in by 5:30pm to talk to the tech guys so they could work out what I wanted the TSB's for but alas the traffic conspired against me so I was late and understandably everyone wanted to take of for the long weekend. It didn't get sorted out.

At least they changed the oil and filter. - didn't reset the evic display oil life meter though. - easy enough to do, maybe hadn't read it in the manual.

They didn't reset the oil change evic display? That's pretty average!
I've done my own oil changes and resetting the evic display can be a bit tricky. There are two published methods, one allegedly for the "export" version- haven't had any success with that one.
The one I EVENTUALLY got to work was accelerator pedal to the floor three times in ten seconds, but even it seems hit and miss. Last year, I took about ten tries to get it (and was also trying the brake pedal "export" version method, whereas a month ago I used the accelerator pedal first off and succeeded on the very first try. Go figure.
Cheers
David

PS IF I went by by evic oil life meter alone (I don't) I could could probably do 20,000 klms between oil changes! Admittedly I very rarely do short runs or city traffic, but it drops from 100% life very very slowly!

The service interval in the US is 10000 Miles (16000klms)

FCA like to get you back more often so the dealer can extract some more $$$$ with over priced filters etc.

Re: Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?

The oil life in the EVIC is calculated based on a 20000kms life cycle. Pretty pointless really when Jeep AU have set 10000kms service intervals.

Lot of pointless info in the EVIC screens and yet one of the more important bits of info like the DPF filter status is not there.
