Re: I've broken down

Good to see you may have a quicker solution....

Though I'm still stuck at your initial 5 week delay!!!!!

As a new convert to Jeep, this is where I get rattled. Holden, Ford, Toyota and probably even KIA would stock parts locally for a 48-72 hour turnaround. A pulley is a pulley and is a basic moving part they may wear sooner than others. They should be in stock, particularly in their new Melbourne plant which now is also supposed to supply SE Asia!

Was 5 weeks just a flippant off the cuff remark from the cleaner on the dealer's workshop floor or were they fair dinkum?

I agree - it is a complete disgrace that there isn't a ready stock of these basic parts - A dealer without a drive belt (or 10) sitting in their workshop. What a joke.

Nope - came direct from the service manager. He sent me a screen shot of the order off the Chrysler internal system. I'm pretty sure he knows how cranky I am and he wouldn't have told me lightly.

Re: I've broken down

Obviously these guys have never heard of the term "air freight". I can only guess that this is an Australian Chrysler Jeep directive, use sea freight for all parts to keep the warranty costs down, regardless of how small the parts are.

Re: I've broken down

I have heard somwhere that the Pathfinder 3.0l is the same motor as ours, maybe a Nissan belt would do the job!?

Re: I've broken down

Well, guess what.

My car is fixed!

As I said earlier the service manager pulled the required parts, a idler pulley and an air conditioner hose, off another jeep in their yard.

So it has all worked out OK, but it really has been the result of me pushing the issue and the service manager being super helpful.

On investigation there was a clip missing from an intercooler hose located near the pulley, so we think the clip may have fallen off and flicked up into the serpentine belt and jammed in the pulley.

I do want to give a huge rap to Heartland at Castle Hill and the service manager there - he really did go out of his way in the end to get my car back on the road when it became obvious that Chrysler Aust where not going to help us.

I cannot recommend them highly enough.

As for Chrysler Australia - Im still waiting for one of my three messages to be returned.

Chrysler Australia nil
Heartland Castle Hill - 1

While my car was there I had 3 TSBs applied:

08-018-12 Bluetooth
08-034-12 Air suspension (not a fix for the sand driving issue)
08-051-12 Related to the Powertrain Control Module

So all up, an interesting few days in the land of Jeep.

Re: I've broken down

I've not had one in my hand but if the idler pulley shell is still OK surely it can't be that difficult to go to an engineering shop and get the bearing replaced. I'd be confident that a bearing to suit would be available.
Dunno about the hose tho - taping it up might be a bit shonky.
Hope you are back on the road soonest.

Re: I've broken down

It would appear that Heartland Jeep is trying to do the right thing, and Cudos to them for their common sense approach.
I have said it in the past, CJA need a major shakeup, as it apparently isn't getting the message that service is important as well as a good supply of readily available parts.

^+1 most dealers are really doing their best in light of their support (or lack of).

Looks like Heartland Jeep are expanding. I saw a new Heartland Jeep delership signs going up in Greenacre on Hume Highway.

Re: I've broken down

Only problem with Heartland is their Salemen. They are barely able to tell the difference between a Chrysler and a Jeep. Don't even try asking them a technical question.
