Re: Jeep Customer Service and DRL's

Just came across this thread and having recently got an Overland I have a few questions

1. Is it legal to drive the car without the DRLs on
2. How/where do you disconnect the DRLs - assume it is a fuse?
3. Is there a normal lower wattage bulb that could be used instead of an LED
4. How difficult is it to change bulb/LED
5. Should I not use the DRLs to protect/maintain "new" look
6. Should I hold my breath for a Jeep Aus fix?

Thanks

2. How/where do you disconnect the DRLs - assume it is a fuse? PULL 2 RELAYS LOCATED ON DRIVERS SIDE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE ARE 2 FUSE BOXES, IT IS THE REAR ONE.
3. Is there a normal lower wattage bulb that could be used instead of an LED NORMAL? AS THE BULB HAS 2 SETTINGS, (DIMMER WHEN HEADLIGHTS ON) PROBABLY NOT 7W / 21W
4. How difficult is it to change bulb/LED ONE SIDE EASY, OTHER SIDE CUMBERSOME, BUT CAN BE DONE
5. Should I not use the DRLs to protect/maintain "new" look BETTER TO WASH THE CAR TO MAINTAIN NEW LOOK
6. Should I hold my breath for a Jeep Aus fix? ABSOLUTELY NOT UNLESS YOU NEVER NEED TO BREATH AGAIN

Thanks

Re: Jeep Customer Service and DRL's

I read about the "challenges" people have had with the daytime running lights so I ordered a set of LED bulbs as soon as I got my JGC Loredo. When I'd had it for about three weeks I got the Auto Electrician that my dealship uses to instal them (they were doing my towbar wiring at the time). They found that the plug for the left daytime running light was "heat discoloured".

I went straight from there back to the dealership who initially tried to blame the LED bulbs! A quick discussion outlining the discovery process fixed that! During this exchange they tried to tell me the headlight assembly is worth in the vicinity of $4500, no, that is not a typo. That figure is laughable by the way, a little effort on google finds them for around $700, with HID. They are fitting a new left hand headlight assembly this Friday. Commendably this was their solution, the assembly comes with a new daytime running light plug.

So, long story short, check your daytime running light plugs as you switch to LED bulbs. Search for 3157+LED, lots of choices. I am happy with the ones I have installed, brighter than the original bulbs, lower power draw (and less heat), longer life and they look great!

I do like the look of this style of bulb and would look at them as an upgrade/replacement 7 5 Watt High Power Xenon White Reverse Lights 3156 3157 LED Bulbs Backup H3 | eBay

Hope this helps.

Re: Jeep Customer Service and DRL's

Maybe you may want to consider trying the 4114 globes they are the 14v and were specifically made for DRL use. The is also the 4157 which works in the 12.8v to 14 volt range.

14 volt bulb should last longer and manage the heat just a little better I am going to experiment with some this weekend.
