Thanks for reminding me about the action Ally, I suspect one of the conditions will be confidentiality. This was the case for the fellow who had his car taken back with a refund of purchase price.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

You can only hope that any '11-'13 owners with an issue find this thread on Google and open a case with their state fair trading authority. I am sure that Jeep will get the message one day and start treating us like valued clients, not ATMs.

I just carnt see JA making an across the board fix available to all owners, even with an adverse finding in the current court action. Only those with a registered case maybe will get a letter offering some restitution. People not in the know will not be contacted at all. JA has form on this - sand failures, recovery hooks, air con, wrong tyres etc were never notified to all owners - only those who kicked up a stink.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

This would be funny if it was so sad (and frustrating!).

A letter in two weeks you say??

Have a look at Post #326 on 15 Jan: Tracey says customers will get a letter in 2 weeks........

Jeep certainly have a different way of counting two weeks. But having followed this thread for over a year, every promise seems to go like:

A new update.....in 2 weeks.
A new map......in 2 weeks
A new release.......in 2 weeks.
A letter........in 2 weeks.

The other funny part is have a look at the TSBs that have covered these map and software 'enhancements'.......they actually say - AND I QUOTE:
"All repairs are reimbursable within the provisions of warranty." How generous of Jeep Australia to give them to some Australian owners without payment....

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Today, due to the hard work and personal sacrifice put in by forum member, Bungendore, we the owners of Jeep Grand Cherokees have had what I think is a rather substantial win against Jeep Australia.
Bungendore took Jeep Australia to a tribunal over the navigation issue.

To give you some background to those of you who are new to this forum, Bungendore is the owner of a MY12. Being a resident of Canberra, as well as a caravan owner, Bungendore uses the Jeep for some long trips. One regular trip is between Canberra and Batemans Bay.
It has been well documented here of the issues with the Jeep's navigation system,
For example, the trip between Canberra and Batemans Bay should be a easy 90minute drive along the Kings Hwy. Due to software issues, the Jeep's system would route you from Canberra to Sydney along the Hume Hwy, across to the Princes Hwy, then back down the coast to Batemans Bay via Sutherland and Nowra. That trip would take over 6hrs, instead of 90mins and you would travel 100's of klms out of your way. The above example is simply 1 of the common navigation failures, and there are many examples of similar routing failures.
All appear due to the Jeep's system ignoring any unverified road when calculating routing, but not informing the user of the adjustment. If you were in an unfamiliar location you could spend hours driving literally in circles if you followed the screen routing.

In an effort to get the system fixed, Jeep Australia had Bungendore running trips of several hundred klms to dealerships, only to be either turned away because Jeep Customer Service had not done what they said they would do, or endure bungled attempts to correct the problem.
Complaints made to Jeep Customer Service were responded to by stating there was no issue, and later on that a fix would be released "in 2 weeks" That situation continued for 18mths.

As a result, Bungendore took Jeep Australia to a tribunal, and today’s result has been reported as follows.
The Judge found that Bungendore , and others, had been treated very poorly by Jeep Australia, and Jeep Australia had been found at fault.

Jeep Australia has now informed the tribunal that they will fix the problem for ALL GRAND CHEROKEE owners effected.

Jeep Australia has told the tribunal that within the next few weeks they would send a letter to all owners who have the non functional navigational software, and offer a free software upgrade. The judge was adamant that Jeep acknowledge that the problem was not mapping related, but software related, and that Jeep were responsible, not the mapping supplier, Navteq.

I therefore suspect that over 4,000 MY11, MY12 and MY13 owners will receive the letter shortly.
I personally would like to publicly thank Bungendore for incurring the long drawn out, and frustrating effort that they went through on my behalf as well as others. This has not been an enjoyable experience for Bungendore, and I personally say THANKYOU.
I look forward to Jeep Australia now finally offering a working solution to this matter, and hopefully they have learnt a costly lesson.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Thank you AllyPally and Bungendore.

This affects friends of mine who, whilst loving their MY13 JGC have nav issues. I will pass this info on to R&M and hopefully they will receive the said letter in the mail.

Thank you again for the update.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Has there been an "official" media release from Jeep AU about this, admitting fault and the free upgrade to rectify. I fear they will sort out the few of you who have complained but not all 4000 odd owners.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

This only occurred this afternoon, so no releases as yet.
However, I can tell you that Jeep Australia WILL NOT call this issue a fault, as that would have greater implications for them. It will be interesting to see what their legal team construct to spin the story to the public.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Is there a case/Star number Ally?

What official doc/number do I need to give R&M to have their Jeep rectified? Or, is it a case of waiting for the letter to arrive?

I don't believe they have ever complained (to my knowledge). So they will be unknown to CJD as far as this issue is concerned.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

From what I have been told, all owners will receive the letter, not just those who complained. They need to wait for the letter. Should take around (dare I say it?) 2 weeks. Hopefully the dealers will have been informed, and have the software available beforehand.
