You will never watch this film again without thinking about Jeep timeline to fix all Sat nav issues.

Allypally, I second that. Thank you Bungendore for all the work you have done and for your perseverance. A great outcome for all JGC SATNAV owners.

Yes, very well done Bungendore, a great result. Anything do to with preparing for, then attending tribunals, mediation and even court are rarely pleasant experiences.

Thank you for your persistence as now others may benefit also.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

I am now able to confirm that yesterday the ACT Tribunal ruled on our case with Jeep concerning the GPS problems.

We had previously attended an earlier mediation hearing in December that was required to be confidential and not discussed outside the court. During that hearing Jeep promised to test and load new software that they believed would fix the previously listed problems. This time, true to their word, they did load new software in mid January and I was able to test it as far as possible in a limited time and area. We were happy with the result and it showed a giant leap in reliability on what is still a basic GPS.

In yesterday's hearing the judge reviewed many papers, copies of comments on this forum, stat decs from Jeep owners and correspondence with Jeep. I think we can sum up the day by saying the Judge was not impressed by Jeep and commented repeatedly about goods of acceptable quality, failure at customer care and the ramifications of public relations.

I take this opportunity to publically recognise the professional presentation by Mr. Glenn Jones, Senior Manager at Jeep during his attendance. Mr Jones has only recently moved into the area of customer care, heading up the customer support lines (e.g. Tracey and Rob) and general self proclaimed trouble shooter. He appeared genuinely sorry for the problems of the past and promised that Jeep had learned from the lessons and was moving into a new and fresh approach to making their customers happy. A sentiment the Judge noted.

I also take this opportunity to thank Swampy for kicking this off and support, to Allypally for his continued support and technical expertise and Wabat for enthusiasm and commitment.

During the hearing Jeep has promised the court it will be sending a letter within the next 2 weeks to all Australian owners of this GPS system - approximately 4,500 - advising of the new software and they will be able to take these letters to their dealers for the update at no charge. I am confident that this forum members will be eagerly awaiting their letters and will comment when received.

In the meantime, here is a photo of my system screen so you have something to look forward to!

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Well done Bungendore. I would be nice to get the transcripts on the case, which I am sure will be up on the courts website very soon.

I am glad that someone has taken Jeep to task over this issue as the response form Jeep is so woeful. My promised call byu Wednesday COB has not materialised, I guess they must have said I would get my call in "2 weeks".
I will not hold my breath for this letter, and I bet they do not do it for everyone.
The only thing we can do is make sure media outlets know about this, so the majority of owners get informed.

Thanks for your work Bungendore, helping many owners.

Bungendore took Jeep Australia to a tribunal over the navigation issue.

To give you some background to those of you who are new to this forum, Bungendore is the owner of a MY12. Being a resident of Canberra, as well as a caravan owner, Bungendore uses the Jeep for some long trips. One regular trip is between Canberra and Batemans Bay.
It has been well documented here of the issues with the Jeep's navigation system,
For example, the trip between Canberra and Batemans Bay should be a easy 90minute drive along the Kings Hwy. Due to software issues, the Jeep's system would route you from Canberra to Sydney along the Hume Hwy, across to the Princes Hwy, then back down the coast to Batemans Bay via Sutherland and Nowra. That trip would take over 6hrs, instead of 90mins and you would travel 100's of klms out of your way. The above example is simply 1 of the common navigation failures, and there are many examples of similar routing failures.
All appear due to the Jeep's system ignoring any unverified road when calculating routing, but not informing the user of the adjustment. If you were in an unfamiliar location you could spend hours driving literally in circles if you followed the screen routing.

In an effort to get the system fixed, Jeep Australia had Bungendore running trips of several hundred klms to dealerships, only to be either turned away because Jeep Customer Service had not done what they said they would do, or endure bungled attempts to correct the problem.
Complaints made to Jeep Customer Service were responded to by stating there was no issue, and later on that a fix would be released "in 2 weeks" That situation continued for 18mths.

As a result, Bungendore took Jeep Australia to a tribunal, and today’s result has been reported as follows.
The Judge found that Bungendore , and others, had been treated very poorly by Jeep Australia, and Jeep Australia had been found at fault.

Jeep Australia has now informed the tribunal that they will fix the problem for ALL GRAND CHEROKEE owners effected.

Jeep Australia has told the tribunal that within the next few weeks they would send a letter to all owners who have the non functional navigational software, and offer a free software upgrade. The judge was adamant that Jeep acknowledge that the problem was not mapping related, but software related, and that Jeep were responsible, not the mapping supplier, Navteq.

I therefore suspect that over 4,000 MY11, MY12 and MY13 owners will receive the letter shortly.
I personally would like to publicly thank Bungendore for incurring the long drawn out, and frustrating effort that they went through on my behalf as well as others. This has not been an enjoyable experience for Bungendore, and I personally say THANKYOU.
I look forward to Jeep Australia now finally offering a working solution to this matter, and hopefully they have learnt a costly lesson.
I wonder what goes through the mine of executives Of Jeep Australia
Ignoring denying these issues will eventually destroy a great product in Australia.

It takes an owner considerable time worry etc to get action
Not only JA is at fault but so is our lousy consumer laws and those empowered to enforce then.
Some times i think these government entities think they are here to protect the manufactures and other executivities.

Well done
Not sure if JA new found genuinely sorry and promise to improve is believable oppsss there is another pink pig flying around the office.

I do live in hope
But action is the only think that i fear will convince people of the genuineness of JA towards their customers and customer service
