Jeep Navigation System = "Fail"

Hello Everyone

Please use this thread to post all of your Jeep Navigation System Fail examples.

I think that it would be good to put them all in one place.

Today we went on a day trip from Oakford to Hoddy's Well Archery centre that is near Toodyay.

1st photos are of the Nav system heading North on Tonkin Highway and needing to turn right (East) onto Roe Highway. The Jeep Nav System has us turn left onto Roe Highway, travel a couple of Kilometres West, Do a U-Turn then head back East past where we could have easily turned right. Note that this intersection an ability to turn right has been there probably about 15 years.

The next photo has the Jeep Nav System telling us repeatedly to do U-turns to get off Toodyay Road, even though this is the shortest route to get there. Note that Toodyay road has been there probably longer than I have. Note the time to destination is 1Hr and 13 minutes. We were actually less than 15 minutes away from our destination at that time.

End result is that we certainly got their OK and had great fun. Thankfully we were not relying on the Jeep Nav System otherwise we would have expended much more travel time.

Quite Simply: Jeep Navigation System = "Fail".

Well, called the 1300 number with some success. Claim was made that update will be generally available in 6-8 wks. When asked about the fact that I believed there was an update now, advised that it is being "tested". The operator advised there was a firmware update available now "but it does not fix the issue". There seemed to be high awareness the GPS is a problem. I also asked if when the map update came out it would be free or paid and was told free and at that time it should be generally available with dealers.
We shall see!

Isn't it interesting that there are about 4 persons working in Jeep Customer Service, and they appear to know very little about the issues that each are working on? I deal with an outsourced team in India, and can categorically report that if they came up with the same stupid responses, they would be looking for work. Perhaps Jeep Australia should outsource these clowns to a country which tries to support the company and it's customers.

Is the volume speed sensitive? i.e. you set it to 22 while on a hwy, then when you go slow around your stopping location, the volume drops. When you restart, the volume sets to it's last memory setting.
I am probably completely wrong.

My volume did not reset this morning when I turned on the car. I was that startled this morning when 140dB of Coldplay screamed out of the speakers, my head almost punched through the sunroof and needed a change of underwear:eek:

It has been reported that the new system is the same as that used in the Chrysler 300, and I have not heard any complaints using that system.
I don't know whether that system is the Garmin. The US uses the Garmin maps, however they tend to use Navteq maps for Australia.

Again spoke to Jeep Customer Service in Melb, who advise that we can expect an update in 3 weeks, as Navteq were in the final stages of releasing an updated map.
Mind you, 12 months ago that timeframe for a fix was only 2 weeks.

Firstly, I can categorically state that the updated map does NOT fix the routing issue. Because there will be now less unverified roads, and more POI's it will be much more reliable. However, the fundamental problem of the system not routing on unverified roads will still exist.
I am also guessing, that if you have not complained of this issue, and have a case number, you will be paying for the update.

Just spoke with Jeep Customer Assist on the 1300 number.
Spoke to Rob who assured me a fix was 3-4 weeks away (where have I heard that before!)

Case no. 269905 was issued to me after I complained about having to pay for the update.
He took vehicle and dealers details too and said he will call when it's available.

I recorded the call for posterity too...... Hehe.

Hey Guys,

Here is an update: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f155/uconnect-13-19-0-unofficial-61905-3.html#post848453

It isn't just BS, I know for a fact that jdchamp has good info on the subject. I don't have a specific time but you can read around our posts here because we were discussing your NAV issues and the root causes.... easier than me re-typing. MyGig updates will not fix it but it is in the hands of the software people for testing.

THX!

Hey allypally!

Well I kinda got to speak to someone who knows a little more about what is actually happening for the prior Maps. jdchamp was good enough to pass on that he was able to confirm that UConnect staff are actually working and testing this right now and I believe him. As I mentioned in our RA3 / RA4 discussions I have been watching your conversations about the issues and I think that solutions are on thier way.

I can't really apologize as I am not connected with them but I did see all the posted routes and that was pretty terrible.

At Least you have Diesels!?!?!

Thankyou very much for that update. It is the most refreshing, and factual, news we have heard in over a year.
You would think that Jeep Australia would have made such an announcement, but I guess the mushroom food under which they reside, won't allow them to communicate anything useful to their customers.
It will be interesting if they will attempt to charge any owner for this fix, but I strongly suspect that any owner who has not lodged a fault, will get charged as they will try to release the fix as part of a mapping release, when in fact it is also a seperate database.

I can't really confirm anything as I have told another Aussie. I pass on what I know and I believe this source to be very knowledgeable as there is more direct connections there.

In the Past, CDJ NA and EU would send out the map "refresh" as a customer satisfaction thing. I would *guess* that as long as there have been consistant route complaints from you guys/gals that they would do the same for OZ. VINs are controlled for these updates so hopefully they do the whole production range.

I hope you guys get it for nothing, frankly the stuff I have seen in your screen shots is just sad.
