Jeep Navigation System = "Fail"

Hello Everyone

Please use this thread to post all of your Jeep Navigation System Fail examples.

I think that it would be good to put them all in one place.

Today we went on a day trip from Oakford to Hoddy's Well Archery centre that is near Toodyay.

1st photos are of the Nav system heading North on Tonkin Highway and needing to turn right (East) onto Roe Highway. The Jeep Nav System has us turn left onto Roe Highway, travel a couple of Kilometres West, Do a U-Turn then head back East past where we could have easily turned right. Note that this intersection an ability to turn right has been there probably about 15 years.

The next photo has the Jeep Nav System telling us repeatedly to do U-turns to get off Toodyay Road, even though this is the shortest route to get there. Note that Toodyay road has been there probably longer than I have. Note the time to destination is 1Hr and 13 minutes. We were actually less than 15 minutes away from our destination at that time.

End result is that we certainly got their OK and had great fun. Thankfully we were not relying on the Jeep Nav System otherwise we would have expended much more travel time.

Quite Simply: Jeep Navigation System = "Fail".

I called up Jeep desist today to loge my SatNav issues. Got told the fix is 4 weeks away. I told Rob that we have been hearing this BS for the past 12 months, but he assured me that it was in testing and would be arriving soon.

I told him I expected it to be FOC to which he said he could not guarantee that it would be free.

I forewarned him that there will be hundreds of complaints to the ACCC if they try to charge to fix this fault, as we are all going to insist on it being a free job.

If they are going to hide this update with a map update, they can just do both, free. I do not know if we should just lodge a case with the ACCC as I expect a fight with JeepAU going by their past dealings with all and sundry.

I will now hold off getting my car serviced for a few more weeks to wait for this update.

My understanding is they are going to disguise this fix by packaging it with a map update. Therefore, people wanting to buy the new maps will also get the fix.
If you have a CS number from lodging a complaint, you will have a good chance to argue the cost.

I am optomistic that something is happening to fix the woeful GPS. As I advised, I have had the beta test update done on my Jeep and it is better. Not good. But better. And only because ACT Fair Trading got involved and there was a date for a court case.

But let me encourage you all to know your rights under consumer law. Do not expect the ACCC to protect you. They won't. Yes, register your complaint. But they simply do not have the time or resources to do any investigation until they get hundreds of complaints. And they will only advise you to go back to your State consumer department/fair trade or whatever it is called where you reside.

I am from the ACT and I wrote and then visited the ACCC and got their direction. I registered with the ACT Dept of Fair Trading. Your rights are to get the product you paid for and for it to work as is reasonably expected. Jeep was not responsive to me, but more so with a government legal consumer representative.

And you should know you are not only entitled to a refund or fix. Each state is different, but basically the same. Here in the ACT I would be entitled to:

1. A refund or fix of the instrument. Value approx $1400.
2. A refund for my expenses of driving to and from the dealership at the standard ATO rate (approx 71c per km).
3. A refund for ALL my time contacting and chasing Jeep including letters, telephone calls, emails and visits to my local government office and Jeep. At a reasonable rate of $50 per hour, a very good incentive!
4. A refund of all legal costs of taking the case to the local court/tribunal, in the ACT it is approx $135.

DO NOT PAY FOR A FIX OR MAP UPDATE. Jeep knows this product was never of "merchantable quality". And if they can fool people into thinking they are the only ones, they win.

Talk to your state government consumer group. Register with Jeep and the consumer group. Get your government representative to contact Jeep and they will be more responsive and accurate than telling you a fix is "2-3 weeks away". Have a look at these threads - they said this over a year ago!

Good luck!

Not their target audience.
It would be considered a luxury problem.

Ha, nice... buy a nicer vehicle for yourselves and get deprived of your basic rights of being treated fairly.

Keep complaining to Jeep. Get other people on board if needed. Other than the one person who I will leave unnamed (jeepgarage hater) Jeep people do care about what you guys think.

Yeah, you're not allowed to get too far above the average or you get shot down.

Same problem in a car 1/4 of the price, well then you have a winner to take to the TV shows.

God forbid you work hard and buy a deserved treat for yourself.

If I ever get anyone's ear on this I will make sure I express my disappointment on this.... not so much on the delays, that isn't Chrysler but they should be 100% standing by a free upgrade.

Just got "the" call. The update is done, but not yet available to the dealers, as it has not yet been broadcast to them.
They are going to call my dealer to arrange a free upgrade. I should know more tomorrow.

Hmmmm, it is supposed to be a disc mailer and activation system... not sure if they are going to attempt a software delivery but they you need to write the DVD.

PM me if something funny comes up. I still don't have a lot of information on this but if I can get my hands on it I will make it available here.

Unfortunately not. There was a TSB: 08-066-13 released on 21st Aug which I understand goes a long way to rectifying these issues.
Tracey from Jeep Cust Services (mind you, in the case of Jeep Australia, services does not necessarily mean "good") was supposed to call me on Monday to give me details. Naturally, true to form, she did not. When I called on Monday afternoon, they said she was in a meeting. Yesterday, their answering machine kicked in at 3:30pm saying they only worked till 5:00pm and therefore they were closed. So still trying to obtain info from them.

Just successfully contacted Tracey at Jeep CS.
She stated the reason she did not return my calls is because she had nothing to report, even though she did last week. (mystery).
In any event, what I have gathered is the following.
1. Those who lodged a complaint about the routing issue, and have a CS ref will be supplied the updated maps free. Others are going to be asked to pay for them. Jeep are not going to inform those with a ref. that maps are available, so you will need to chase them. Under the current arrangement (Jeep with Navteq) dealers have to pay for the maps, and then on sell to customers. In cases where the complaint has been previously lodged, the dealers need to get reimbursement from Jeep Aust.
2. The TSB 08-066-13 is not known to them (so they say). I told them I expect the TSB to be installed at the same time, and would not accept any delay.

Basically, I get the impression that Jeep Australia have no intention of providing this fix, voluntarily, so owners are going to need to fight them to get any sort of justice.

The TSB is not hard to find. TSB 08-066-13 RHR/W/P 2.184 enhancements - JeepForum.com

Dealers just waiting to be spoon fed as usual. The TSB doesn't mention any NAV updates - part of jeeps plan to keep it separate from the map so they can try to rip us off again I guess.

Time for a call to the ACCC for anyone who doesn't have a case number.

I don't have sat nav but instead of ringing Custer service why don't you all ring Veronica johns - go through the head office general number and ask for Veronica johns PA. I've done this and got a result.

If you all coordinate - everyone rings on the same day.

If nothing else it would be good sport and tie up their office for a day....
