Jeep Navigation System = "Fail"

Hello Everyone

Please use this thread to post all of your Jeep Navigation System Fail examples.

I think that it would be good to put them all in one place.

Today we went on a day trip from Oakford to Hoddy's Well Archery centre that is near Toodyay.

1st photos are of the Nav system heading North on Tonkin Highway and needing to turn right (East) onto Roe Highway. The Jeep Nav System has us turn left onto Roe Highway, travel a couple of Kilometres West, Do a U-Turn then head back East past where we could have easily turned right. Note that this intersection an ability to turn right has been there probably about 15 years.

The next photo has the Jeep Nav System telling us repeatedly to do U-turns to get off Toodyay Road, even though this is the shortest route to get there. Note that Toodyay road has been there probably longer than I have. Note the time to destination is 1Hr and 13 minutes. We were actually less than 15 minutes away from our destination at that time.

End result is that we certainly got their OK and had great fun. Thankfully we were not relying on the Jeep Nav System otherwise we would have expended much more travel time.

Quite Simply: Jeep Navigation System = "Fail".

I have been flatout with work to bother following up with JeepAU over the 4 week wait I was told 4 months ago, but I will this week.

I was driving from Manly Vale to an address in Brookvale and the satnav wanted me to go over the spit bridge and come back around the Roseville Bridge.
This is a detour of about 35km. For anyone not familiar with the area, the suburbs are next to each other and the distance was only about 3km.

JeepAU are really pissing me off by their total disregard over this problem. I will report back on their response and if it is not adequate, I will continue my ACCC case and force the issue with them.

And that's an extra 32km of possibly insane traffic over the spit bridge.

Yes, But this time I got the message from the dealer, not Jeep Aust.
There is a new release of a TSB, dtd 23 Sept, which when I looked last week was not on the WK2jeeps website.
This TSB also requires a map upgrade.

Latest "story" or "episode" from Jeep Australia, is that the disks have been ordered, but, (wait for it) they won't arrive from the US until 18th November.
Why in this day and age would you deliver software globally via disk is absurd, and then to actually ship that disk via sea, shows the mentality of the idiots running Jeep Australia.
OR
It is just another set of lies spread by Jeep Australia to cover up their lack of a fix.

I have a MY13 Summit and yesterday it went in for its first service after owning it for 6 months ( it only has 6000 kms on it). I brought up the navigation update with the dealer and gave them the TSB. Of course they knew nothing, Chrysler Aust. hadn't past on any information. They looked into it for me and when they checked my vin the system it came up that I wasn't eligible for the update and when they queried it with Chrysler they were told the updates were only for the MY12.
The dealer has gone in to bat for me with Chrysler in the hope that they will allow the update. I'm glad I rang and complained 3 months ago, at least I have a number and I'm in there system, it might help in getting the update.
I haven't heard back from the dealer today, so looks like a phone call tomorrow.

After discussing my continued sat nav faults - including sending me on dirt or non existant tracks off main highways, I was promised by Tracey at Jeep Customer Care that 2 update disks were now available to fix my beta software previously installed.

Tracey agree to have them shipped to Rockhampton, where I had already booked my car in for the 20,000 km service. She had approx. 2 weeks and we had a number of emails and phone calls to say the sat nav would be updated an improved.

Guess what? When I arrived at Jeep Rockhampton, they knew nothing. Tracey had done nothing. Regardless of repeated promises. As we were there for over a weeks, Rockhampton contacted Tracey to get them sent up and installed urgently. They were able to show me Jeep's email in return. Disks are on backorder. Would not be available.

So much for Jeep promises.

Enough. I have sent Jeep the required legal letter as per A.C.T. Consumer Law.

Within the next week I will be able to take the next step with the Tribunal for a hearing.

I have my Overland booked in for the 1st service in the first week of November.

I was advised by Robert, from Jeep CS, on the 26 September the dealership would have the update discs in 21 days. It was confirmed today that they have the discs. We shall see

Forgot to add I was asked for the VIN by the dealership and I was not advised there were any problems. He also could not give me the TSB number of the update.

I just picked up my Overland after having a faulty wheel bearing replaced.
When I booked it in I asked them to apply all updates.
They rang me at lunchtime and told me they had no idea about the Serv 4WD update, so I gave it to them, and they've done that.

I asked for the radio and Nav updates and when they rang to tell me it was ready to be picked up I asked if all updates had been done, she said , "Yes."
Arrive at dealership to find them apologising saying the radio and nav updates haven't been done as they don't have the discs from Jeep yet........

Anyway..........they are "apparently" arriving on Monday from Jeep and they were eager to book me in for this, as I have been making noises about their inefficiencies, so I'll hopefully have it done next week....fingers crossed.

Hi Matt,

I also had my 20k service today, supplying the dealer here in Perth with a hardcopy of the TSB to update the radio version to 2.184. This is only the second time in 6 weeks that I have done this, mind you.

"All done", they said! Got out to the car and surprise, version still at 2.136!

Back into the service centre and they go into a huddle with their technician, surfacing to tell me that 2.136 is the latest version, having received these disks only recently! Then they tell me that the TSB is 'only for US vehicles'!

They did promise to check this with their Jeep foreman who was away on a training day today, though I don't expect anything to come from that. Looks like another call to Jeep Customer Service on Monday.

They did mention that there was a gps update likely for November, but I didn't bother telling them that the 2.184 update would most likely be a pre-requisite.

Another frustrating experience with this dealer.

Woody,

Can you PM my your Current km and VIN number please. I want to see what really has been applied TSB wise to your vehicle.

Also 2.184 is available here on Jeep Garage for Download, but it is only half the fix for the routing issues. You of course need the MAP data refresh to complete this properly.

If you are getting an 'update' ask them exactly what update. What is the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). What is the software ID. Each one has a unique ID number.

I had a call from my Jeep dealer to advise that Jeep HO had sent them sat nav updates for my Jeep. But after pushing for exact software ID, we found the 'update' disk was the one that was actually 2 disks before the one that was in my Jeep already.

May be an update to them from Jeep HO, but it was already way out of date for my Jeep.

There are in fact 2 TSB's which are required for 2012 year models. These are
TSB: 08-066-13 dtd Aug 21, 2013. This is the Application 2.184 version of the software.

TSB: 08-070-13 dtd Sep 10, 2013. This requires the above 2.184 to have been installed, and requires the dealer to order a disk (part Nr. 68210917AA) via the ERES order process. Please note the dealer does not require a disk for each car, but just 1 disk per dealership, which can be used on multiple cars.
This disk will update the database from HRT3 N 1108 4.2.1 TO HRT3 N 1109 4.3.1

What seems to be occurring is that the disk requirement is being held up, having to be shipped from overseas by some ancient means of boat, rather than electronically via the web. On top of that, we have Jeep Australia making no effort to inform dealers of these TSB's and the requirements. Another question to be considered is why the TSB's are not applicable to MY11 or MY13 builds, as I believe these have the same routing issues.

I have my doubts the "upgrade" will make a lot of difference. I will wait and see till the end of the year before making a Fair Trading Claim for the value of the unit if purchased as an option (approx $3000). I will then install an after market unit to do the job and never buy a Jeep again.

So I thought I would call the Jeep "Help" line and find out about my case that has been running for 9 months, regarding the SatNav update.
I got told there is an update available for me and to contact my service department. I asked them what the TSB# was for this update......Sorry I do not have that information.....
I mean FFS how can a car company be so incompetent ?
They get an update, but do not tell anyone that has complained that there is a fix and they also do not know what the fix is ?

If I ran my business in such a way, I would be out of business in a week.

Update on status of this issue in Australia. I had had a call from Tracey at Jeep Cust Service about a month ago that an update to fix GPS was available now (I have a case number) and to call my dealer. Discussed with my dealer (Jeep Fivedock) who are on the ball with TSB's I have found and they had to order the disc as others have reported. They called me last week to say disc had arrived so went today for installation. No luck, the map is for Sth Africa. They investigated through their files and found that there have been revisions to the TSB!

Rev A of the TSB has a part number for the RHP radio (68210917AA) that is now the RHP update for Sth Africa. There are three part numbers for the RHP radio now in Rev C of the TSB dated Oct 19, one for Sth Africa, one for Aust/NZ (68212936AA) and one for Middle East all with v4.3.1 of the radio firmware but different maps. So, now my dealer has to reorder the correct disc.

I'm posting here to suggest that if your dealer is waiting on the disc and had ordered prior to Oct 19 that you check what part number is on order because it is likely wrong! Hopefully this will save a few of you some wait time. Clearly there was a stuff up by Jeep in the US and it has been rectified in the revision.

Well done Jeep Australia
