Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

"Have it performed at your local dealer" ?
Sounds like a circus act, where the Jeep Aust Customer Service staff are the clowns.
I wonder if they really believe what they write?

Am i glad that i stuck to my guns and did not fall for the sales pitch and refused to go with the in built nav system
It was way too dear any way in Australia about $2,800 plus i have seen it up $3,500
Our dealers like to rip us off and gouge a bit

Those of us with Overlands didn't have the option, however in my case the Satnav was not the selling point. That aside it is no excuse that the system is poor....like having ventilated seats that blow hot air rather than chilled air, or active cruise control that suddenly decides to accelerate into the car ahead. When the system works OK....and in some cases it does, its a nice luxury, voice activated navigation, not too bad POI's, OK graphics etc.....but when it doesn't, it has the potential to be downright dangerous. In other words, it cannot be entirely trusted and should have been fixed months ago....no question......not an updated Gracenotes release that we are getting fobbed off with. If I was Navteq, I wouldn't put my name to it. Maybe a couple of seriously negative comments on their facebook page might stir things up a bit.

Agreed, It is factory fitted in the Trailhawk so no option there, added to that I knew nothing of its failure until I went to use it the day I picked up the car.

More fool me for not checking the GPS worked prior to ordering the vehicle or More fool me for expecting all of the features of my 70k plus vehicle to actually work?

I cant believe Navteq cannot sort this in 2 seconds and I cannot believe Jeep would allow this to drag out so long.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

That's just what Jeep want you to say. It is nothing to do with Navteq. Your contract is with Jeep and despite all the stories the fact is they have known of this fault since at least Dec 2011, they have advised in writing to a number of owners that a fix will be available "shortly" or within "a couple of months". Just a couple of weeks ago I was told by Jeep Customer Care - and I quote here - "We can't fix it". And that is suppose to be OK.

So keep calling them every week. Keep asking why. Report the matter to the ACCC. Go and register with your state department of fair trade or consumer affairs. They have gotten away with it because their customers have accepted that paying for a $2.5K sat nav that doesn't work is just too hard. Don't let that happen.

Not yet. Just got back on deck and catching up with the latest posts. My gripe isn't with the routing, more so with it not finding street addresses 10km away but suggesting one 2000km away unless I tell the system the suburb (city) first. It's not that the address is not there, the trick is to find it via inputting city names first then it guides me no problem. My general travel takes me up and down the M1, Rocky to Sydney.....the system can cope with that!

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

Spoke to Jeep again today and they assure me they are doing something about it but they will not give me a date for it to be fixed. They also acknowledge that the maps are outdated and are 2011. They also said to speak to the dealer which I did but they also had no knowledge of the nav issue and said it was new to them.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

As soon as they told you to "speak to the dealer" you know it's a sham.

The dealers can only do what Jeep HQ tell them. As example, jeep Customer Care emailed me in Feb/March and told me they had a fix. They asked me to tell them the closest dealer and they would send the "fix" to them for an upgrade. I drove 500 Kim's to my closest dealer who took under an hour to install the "tested" fix. And no, it made no difference.

So fixes are controlled by HO. They are just getting rid of you so you stop bothering them.

Go after them. In my experience, I feel they treat their customers as idiots and don't care how disappointed and upset they are.

Re: Jeep Navigation System Fail

I think the ACCC will be the only course of action to make them understand we are serious. If we all report this to them, they have no defense once we lodge a formal complaint.
I have only used the satnav 5 times and twice it suffered from NFI. This is in Sydney Metro area.

I dont bother using the satnav. Except when I want to have a laugh at the ridiculous routes it gives me

Considering it cost you $2,800 you have a good sense of humour!
