Jeep Osborne Park - Beware...oh and dont pour petrol into your diesels
With some mates in the car industry, i often laughed at the stories but never thought it be done to me. I thought i would give you guys some heads up if the unfortunate ever happened to you...and if jeep australia reading this - goood!
my first real jeep issue! the car suddenly had trouble firing and starting, i immediately contacted jeep and was advised to drive the car down there which is a short distance away. booked the car in and told them to do the recalls and there has been a hissing noise from day 1 which when i brought into for a service they couldnt hear it, anyway it was loud as that morning...the service manager said no problems.
Told him of the problem - yeah this is a common occurrence the recalls should fix the problem. Sweet i said, left the keys there happy to pay a taxi to work and taxi to all my other appointments.
That afternoon i get a phone call, the noise seems to be coming from your fuel pump, its your lucky day, we have one in stock but we wont be able to get it done today will have to be tomorrow. Ok no problems i said
The next day comes around i get a phone call, excuse me john, we found the real problem there is petrol in tank. I was ashamed that i could do such a thing, anyway few seconds later gaining my composure, how much will it cost to fix i asked? he said about $1600, i was like WTF, what are you guys doing? nah its a good price as we will make it so jeep covers your fuel pump, thats a 1k saving right there?
I queried what was involved and the answer was to flush the fuel tank and clean valves and run all the petrol out of your system, its a few hours job he said. I caught him on this and said your hours are over $500 per hour? silence...
I thought, okay, let me flush the system myself my dad is a mechanic...the service manager then wanted to charge me for the fuel pump and the labour...
I kept quiet, knowing full well they couldnt do that but wanted to keep that up my sleeve as i could sue them for a breach in contract!
i contacted another dealership and the service manager laughed, happens all the time mate, cost is $600.
so i did the maths, $1000 for fuel pump they stupidly installed plus $600 for the fix...summed up the total cost perfectly
the other jeep dealership in maddo, negotiated with the dealership got my car out and fixed in a day and i still saved $600.
anyway, for those who are trusting this mob to look after your car - think twice, maybe three times...."this engine noise should be fixed by doing the recalls"
im not taking away from my stupidity, but these guys are suppose to be the expert and then making customers to pay for their stupidity is ridiculous!
