First question - should it be changed at 40k?
Second question - Does the Penrite oil satisfy warranty?
Thanks.
If anything, I'd do the very first oil change EARLIER than recommended. There is a lot of metal in any diff, gearbox etc from new, due to the wearing (running) in process.

As for Penrite- check the oil specs- if they match requirements, warranty covers you. No manufacturer can force you to use "their" oil.

PS I'm a great believer in Redline oils- very good quality, but price to match.

Cheers

Re: Jeep service costs

Follow up to my service at Lander - Received a call from the Lander parent company AHG today, checking that my experience was good (it was). Person told me that JA are giving dealers a hard time ATM and that a rating of anything less than a 10 out of 10 is considered a fail. Apparently I'll be getting a survey to complete. The JA surveys are always fun.

Very encouraging. Should we presume that all the recent poor publicity and the 25% drop in sales is starting to bite and JA have realised that they need to lift their game across the board.

Re: Jeep service costs

My wagon is for the 40k service and 2 dealers here in Adelaide said its major service and the cost will be about $1300.00
I thought 40k seems a bit early for a major.

That's bollocks Salmo. Using the new Mopar service website I just entered your vehicle (MY14, 3.0L diesel, 40,000km service) and chose a SA postcode of 5012 (just a random SA postcode) and all the dealerships within that area come up with a $943 cost for the 40,000.

Here's the website for you to double-check.

Re: Jeep service costs

Well there is some confusion over the 40k service. It is supposed to include the diff oil change, which adds ~$300. But the mopar service site doesn't include it at 40k.

The fuel filter is the other expensive bit, $175 for 2 filters that easily screw in. And Ryco do them for $50.

Noticed SJ quoted a new price for servicing, I checked and they have made some changes to the capped prices. I can't edit my older post, so here is a new one.

Re: Jeep service costs

Noteworthy from new details, Transmission service still exists at 100,000km
Drive Belt moved form 120,000km to 100,000 and added to 200,000

There is no way on hell I would own one of these coming up to 200,000km. I doubt I will keep it for 100,000. Up to and including 100,000km (assuming no further price rises) it is $7,590.91.

Yeah, after 5 years I think most would be looking to move it on, but so much of these items can be sourced far cheaper. The mopar diesel filters are ridiculously expensive, Ryco do them at 1/3 the price.

And if you aren't towing or doing lots of KMs (ie. you have ~60k at the 5 year service, as I'm likely to) then there is just no reason to pay for a transmission fluid change.
