You are assuming they can read and if they can, they care. They aren't called grease monkeys for nothing. Apologies to those rare mechanics that actually care. Unfortunately, dealers are not prepared to pay the salaries these guys deserve.

Re: Jeep service costs

Lol i had two guys the other day servicing a truck i said do not drop the gbox oil we just need a sample. Low and behold 10min later they dropped the oil along with engine and diffs. $540 for 20ltrs. Still had another 100k to go on it sometimes shit happens to the best of them.

I was concerned early on about the costs of pads and some years ago I was quoted $270 a set front and back - again heaps cheaper in US but I don't bother shipping them even when $ was at parity
I've done 180,000 and still on the original pads in my CRD 2012 model.

Not sure. The dealer will most likely drive the Jeep around to the local brake guy anyway. Going direct to the brake guy should be cheaper. The parts you get will not necessarily Mopar, they may be better, they may be worse. If the disks don't look too bad, I would be tempted to change the pads myself. It's a lot easier than changing drum brakes. However, if the Jeep has been off-road, the disks are likely to be scored so a brake guy would be the way to go.

Re: Jeep service costs

An air cleaner is cheap insurance i wouldnt stress if it wasnt. If its not driven in dusty areas im sure they checked and cleaned it to be just fine. Sometimes a partial dirty cleaner is better than a new one.

I haven't heard that before. What's the reasoning?

A dirty filter closes the pores up

You're right, but with these diesels the MAF likes plenty of air over it and into the turbo - restrict the air intake and reduce the output and increase the fuel consumption.
Our old 3l diesel Patrols absolutely hated various aftermarket air filters - there is a reason the genuine one is almost transparent.

Its a tradeoff between air flow and filter efficiency.

Re: Jeep service costs

Has anyone used McCarrolls in Newcastle to service their JGC? I have a major service coming up and I have had enough of driving to Sydney.

cheers

Re: Jeep service costs

Yes I've used them..
I give them all the details of what I'd like done and not done..
At the moment replacing all my own air filters, including the Carbon Cabin filter. Won't pay their prices for those items.
Provide the latest SB's if applicable.

Apart from their documentation issues on the first service invoice, they have been very good and they know the standard I expect.

Car is presented immaculately when it goes in and has come out the same each time.... Even the engine valley was still clean post oil filter change..
Did they even change the filter

Now I need to find a good dealer in Geelong or Melbourne, next year....

Hope that helps..
