Re: Jeep service costs

This is exactly why you still see MY12 GC stuck on the beach with loss of 4x4. The TSB has bee around for years - but the first time the car is taken one the sand, maybe now by the second owner. Bang - No drive.

Re: Jeep service costs

If you update with the latest TSB does it also include previous TSB's that have not been done?

The only problem was when I got home and looked under the bonnet saw the air filter box was not sealed correctly, the power steering fluid below minimum, and they had not reset the oil life gauge. Contacted the service manager the next day and the items were problems were fixed the next day.

To follow on, I got the usual JA service survey and completed that with a "slightly" negative response and was contacted by the service dealer who has to do the next service free of charge. Wait and see.
Like I've said before, fixed price servicing means they work till the money runs out then drop tools and hand the car back. Personally, I prefer to pay whatever it costs to get the job done right.

Jeep dealers will drop tools as soon as they can regardless of how much they are being paid.

I tried twice to have the TSB for "running away down hill" applied, by quoting the TSB number and the fault as described in the TSB. Each time it came back with the report "you have the latest software version already." They didn't say "you already have that TSB". The impression I got is that at some point TSBs are rolled in to a major software update and therefore I didn't need the TSB. Similar to updating your computer with patches until a full update comes along. Does anyone know if this idea is correct or not?

I have exactly the same issue for exactly the same problem of not holding low gears downhill. They tell me I already have the software, and the tsb won't apply. The tsb also fixes other things, at least one of which (the Eco light maintaining status across ignition cycles) is NOT fixed in my car. My car is an early 2013 build, and my car never went to the service centre between when the tsb was released and I asked for the fix. I.e. It had definitely not been applied. I don't know of any earlier tsb which could have addressed the problem.
Neither the dealer nor JA can tell me how the software could have gotten into my car.
I first reported it at 30,000km, and have now done 65,000km. JA told me if I still have the problem, even though "the software is already applied"! To have the dealer escalate the problem. So far, no response.
I consider the problem dangerous, as in low range down a steep hill, the car upshifts unexpectedly. Hitting the brakes with a trailer on is then not fun!
Thanks,
Russell

Re: Jeep service costs

Just done my own 96k service replacing all oils and auto service. Over $700 worth in trade prices. Most noticable differnce is my rear diff has tightened up it never used to chatter before during a turn on a hard surface.

Good job! I'm thinking of doing my diffs as well. I recall there was a debate over diff oils some time back but I couldn't find it. My manual says to use an oil with friction modifier in the front diff. Surely they got that the wrong way around. What oils did you use?

Re: Jeep service costs

I run Penrite Pro-gear 75w-90 that is GL5 in my diffs, both front a rear. Smooth as silk, no chatter.
