There is a different part number for the rear ELSD oil.

Yes there is i said that. But you can also use the same in the front diff as the dealers do anyway.

I'm sure you can do many things and it won't catch on fire or immediately stop working, it's just wrong.

How is it so wrong the front diff doesnt need a modifier. Its added big deal. It saves on the amount of oils you need to purchase to change both. They are actually saving you money doing it this way. Funny how some people think!!! I guess you would also think its wrong using 0w-20 engine oil instead of whats written in the book at 5w-20..

The key word here is think, if you come up with a viewpoint which is backed by some documentation then it's much more believable.

I never said anything about modifier, other than quoting the manufacturer so I don't believe you have understood.

After reading through the literature I can't see that there is anything wrong with using a friction modified oil in the front diff it just isn't necessary. I suspect the dealers do it to avoid carrying two oils and the risk of the inevitable mix up. The extra cost is simply passed on to the customer.

Re: Jeep service costs

It comes in 1ltr bottles so you need 3 to do front and rear. If you were to use the non modifier you would then need 4 bottles two of each.

Re: Jeep service costs

Finished off my auto service today. And called by jeep to do a tsb flash on the tranny for the sand driving issue. Turns out mine had never been done. Any wonder i was struggling a few times recently in the dunes.

Re: Jeep service costs

Finally today I received a call back from FCA regarding my complaint regarding the quoted fixed price servicing. (Refer to post 1315).
Firstly FCA stated that the 50,000klm service did not include the servicing of diff and transmission fluids, and that was only intended for those undertaking towing at an additional charge.
I pointed out to them that both my owners manual, as well as their current website (http://www.jeep.com.au/brochures/ser...y-handbook.pdf) showed that these items should be included.
FCA are stating that the fixed price servicing does not include the items, but basically covers engine fluids only.
I have advised them that I believed they were falsely advertising their service, and that I would raise it with the ACCC.

Re: Jeep service costs

Here is a link to a more updated handbook.

Diff oils don't need changing to 80,000km.
