Had my 10000k service on my JGC WK2 MY13
Limited yesterday at local dealer.

Am i sick of the rip off on parts price by dealers

The 3lt diesel oil filter was charged out at $61.00 as was the air filter
What a rip off
Of course the dealer blamed Jeep Australia for the prices.
Give me a break Mopar have these made in China at about $5.00 each but we have to pay $61.00 what a rip off
Also charged $2.00 for windscreen top up again who are they kidding.
Sick of dealer rip off's

Not completely defending your dealers, but you COULD always go borrow some money, build your own dealership, and give service items away for free until your bank takes your dealership and whatever else you put up
as collateral.

The oil filter probably cost less than $5.00 if made in China. Of course someone had to design it, someone had to make all sorts of computer entries to stock and order it, someone has to pay shipping to get it to Oz, someone has to pay for space to store it, someone has to pay to ship it to a dealer, someone at the dealer probably is not working for free to put it where it can be found, etc etc.

If you don't want a $2.00 top up charge, dunno about your prices, but really good windshield fluids are available here for $1.99 and since you like folks working for free, go fill it. If they charge you then, ask them What The Fluid.

Re: Jeep service costs

Just got my quotes for a 40k service:

Parramatta Motor Group $1430

Heartland (Castle Hill) Jeep $930

Macarthur (Narellan) Jeep $830

All prices are without supplying my own oil or dropping a free oil filter voucher so you can probably take those prices down around $150 respectively.

Re: Jeep service costs

$600 is a lot of difference on a service. Insane.
I have had two of my cars in at Parramatta before, I think one service there, which wasn’t cheap, some warranty work that had to be re-done a few times and frequently got my tyres there as Dave in tyres looked after me.
It was 300m down the road from our old warehouse location (it’s actually in Camellia not Parramatta) so convenient.

The latest thing the dealers seem to be pushing is service times rather then mileage due

This appears to me to be another grab for some bucks
Don't know of any oil that expires on low milage and at 6 month intervals
Yes i know if a car sits for years it can deteriorate some what but what we are talking about is low mileage not no mileage .

Me thinks its just a rip off
My elderly mother had her car serviced by a dealer since new every 6 months because they said it had to
In 7 years it had only done 16,000kms
My daughter bought it from her grandmother and got the local mechanic to check it out and service it and you guessed it he said he doubted if they had ever done a full service on the car But the receipts show they did.

Somethings are equally time based as they are use based. Anything rubber is a perfect example.
If you have a car with a timing belt, do not dream of going past the time or kms whichever comes first, it is not work the risk of destroying half your engine due to the waiting for the extra kms.
Most people don’t realise that tyres effectively have a used by date.

Very true... but oils have a commercial shelf life of 2 years. That is to say, after 2 years, the labels are probably out of date. People argue that it's different when it's in the engine. I don't buy that. How different? Anyway, the actual life of mineral oils is 20+ years. What happens is eventually the additives begin to separate. The fully synthetic oils we use are low ash meaning few additives so there is little to separate therefore probably last even longer.

Re: Jeep service costs

The reasons for the oil changes every 6 months is not due to the oil breaking down because of time.
It is more designed for the people who drive all the time for short distances like the school or shopping runs.

My car is serviced every 6 months as I drive 3km to work and locally all the time. This puts a far greater strain on the vehicle than someone doing a 100km each day on the highway.

It is all the cold ->Hot -> cold cycles thew motor is put through that breaks down the oil and can lead to premature wear.

While it may appear to be another way to get our money, all car makers specify 10,000km or 6 months, or similar for their service schedules for that very reason.

That is not correct, different brands and models have different schedules.
My Falcon LPi is 12months or 15,000km, as is a diesel Territory, VW Touareg & Pajero.
Prado is 6 months or 10,000km.
Disco is 12 months or 26,000km!!!

And of course the diesel GC also has different schedules depending on the territory

Aus 6 months or 10,000km (6,214 miles)
China 6 months or 10,000km (6,214 miles)
Europe/UK 6 months or 10,000km (6,214 miles)
North America 12 months or 16,000km (10,000 miles)
Latin America 12 months or 20,000km (12,418 miles)

Must different oils in north america and latin america or better driving conditions that would explain the different service schedules.
