Outcome of the airbag light is that a new wiring harness has be ordered to replace the stuff under the drivers seat.

I'm starting to get a few electrical niggles....

The 2012 does have a DPF, but not the software issues that have plagued early 2014 models.
You also have a sophisticated emissions control system that includes exhaust gas recirculation and crankcase ventilation through the intake system. You'll have read reports of how oily wet the turbo inter cooler hoses are.
Recirculated oil will be burnt in the intake system with unpleasant results if an incorrect oil is used, in the way of coked deposits that clog valve intakes and have caused significant issues with other vehicles. Plenty of information on this if you Google.
The Chrysler oil specification MS11106 not only calls for a high quality full synthetic long life oil but this oil must pass additional tests that specify residue after the oil is heated to high temperature on a heated plate. To me this is directly relevant and one reason I source and supply the only oil available in Australia that does comply. Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w 30.
Some dealers ( who service many different makes and models in the same workshop)' use a "one size fits all oil", that will maximize profit and reduce inventory. They do however invoice at a price that does reflect the superior oil, for what I believe is inferior product.
In the long run it is the owner who "trusts" the dealer who will bear the long term result if there are any issues.
Apologies for the rant, but it gets up my nose......
Dealers who do the right thing are at a huge disadvantage for obvious reasons.
John

Yes you should be very worried about the oil!, the 2011-13 GC's have a DPF and using the wrong oil will cause big problems,
I would be demanding the oil (and filter) is replaced with DPF compatible oil.
I too only use Mobil 1 ESP

Re: Jeep service costs

Did a bit more research and printed out the Castrol product sheet, so I'm armed when I tackle the dealer. I've also sent an email to Castrol to get confirmation that the oil used is incorrect.

With the stuff up with transmission fluid and everything else, all I can say is Castle Hill should be given a wide berth - I should have taken my own advice....

Re: Jeep service costs

I bought mine through Castle Hill and is expected to arrive mid July. I wont be taking it there even though I've been offered capped price servicing and extended warranty. I'll be taking it to either Peter Warren or Narellan (same owner anyhow) for my servicing. Both are closer to home and have better feedback than the others.

Used Castrol Magnatec Pro10W30 discounted to $55 to keep under the $560 quote.
False alarm. I rang Castle Hill and they confimed that they use Castrol OEX 5W 30. It was just recored on my service sheet as Magnatec to pick up the discounted price.

Heres the data sheet :
http://www.tds.castrol.com.au/pdf/10...79_2011_10.pdf

Seems to meet specification (MB229.31/51) and specifically notes for use with DPF.

As you were...

Re: Jeep service costs

At least you can feel more comfortable that your your vehicle hasn't been compromised.
Or can you?
I guess you have to have some confidence that the higher spec oil actually went in, but I have become somewhat cynical as my years have advanced and I continue to learn life's lessons......
Why would the dealer have to record an inferior oil on the service invoice but actually fill with a far superior product? Of course one answer may be that the staff are trained to provide the answer you got when a customer calls back to query.
OK.
Not right to speculate - and the right outcome is that the dealer has used an oil that will do the right thing by the customer's vehicle. That's what you paid for.

I've removed the doubt and will continue to supply the dealer with an oil that does have the approval on the label.
All the best, and apologies if I stirred the possum a bit.
John

Don't appologise John47, your input is much appreciated and as a result I was able to check with the dealer with the correct information in my back pocket. . I have a healthily level of skepticism but am happy to accept the dealer advice on this occasion.

Thanks again.

Oh, and the new loom for my airbag issue has arrive - some sort of Jeep miracle. Just one day to have a part sent from Melbourne!.

I would have preferred if you had that in writing. However, either way they have us by the short and curlies. They can tell us anything knowing full well we have no way of proving what oil they actually used. They take oil out of a drum, the drum has a label but what's in the drum is anybody's guess.

I suspect what they told u is b..t. More likely than not an inferior oil used to cut cost. I'll contact NRMA Service Centre which does logbook service, and find out whether they can service JGC.
