Re: Jeep service costs

Local Jeep Dealer in Tamworth NSW. Freight will probably make it cheaper to buy local.

I have compared the genuine and the RYCO. It is similar if not better quality than the genuine. The filter media has smaller pores and a higher number of pleats giving it more usable filter area.

I used the Westfil branded one on my CRD for the last 2 changes, but I did the work myself.
Macarthur Jeep had no problem fitting the wesfil filters I supplied at either of my last two services.

Wesfil Oil Filter WCO163 is $14.50 inc. GST from Eziautoparts.com.au

Postage was $14.55 for 2 x fuel filters, 1 x air filter and 1 x oil filter. Not sure of the postage on one filter only.

Jeep service costs

I have been running the Wesfil filters for 30,000km now with no problems, when I can buy oil, fuel (x2) and air filters for less than the cost of genuine fuel filters, I know which I choose

Re: Jeep service costs

I hate to be cynical but if you had a major mechanical fault during the warranty period, its an easy out for Jeep not to pay.

They don't have to prove the non OEM part is not fit for purpose, the onus of proof (that the non OEM part didn't contribute to the failure) would have to be established by the owner unless Wesfil would cover the liability.

Really? Could you refer me to where you sourced this information please?

Cheers,
Steve

If that was to happen i am sure that the makers of the After market would go Jeep if they attempted to say that the non genuine part caused the issue jeep would have to prove

Mate is a mechanic and had an issue similar to what you are saying for one of customer
Once the Oil manufactures and Oil filter manufactures were notified they went the dealer and manufacture with some gusto
The end result Warranty accepted

But yes must use some caution

Re: Jeep service costs

Not sure where it is directly stated but it would be in the spirit of:

3.3 MAINTENANCE COSTS NOT COVERED
Your warranty does not cover the costs of repairing damage caused
directly or indirectly by poor or improper maintenance. Nor do they
cover damage caused by the use of contaminated fuels, or by the use
of fuels, oils, lubricants, or fluids other than those recommended in
your Owners Manual/Operating Information.

This is from the jeep internet site Australia

" 3. Comes With A Warranty and Doesn't Void Your Vehicle's Warranty
It's sad to say not every manufacturer of non-original Jeep parts doesn't provide the warranty Jeep does. But before saving a small amount on aftermarket parts, you'll want to determine if the parts have their own warranty, and if use of these non-Jeep parts will void your vehicle's own warranty.'

Owners manual outlines MOPAR filters are recommended. So inversely non OEM parts are not recommended (as they are not stated).

I dont want to start a war. To be clear, I think non OEM parts are most likely just as good in terms of performance but if you have a major failure Chrysler will look to minimise its financial costs and it may point to the use of non OEM parts as a means to do so.

Each will assess if the $ you save exceeds the extra risk of warranty claim rejection.

Re: Jeep service costs

No war mate. Consumer law has come down on this type of limitation, and just because it says so in the manual means jack. It's a nice try at encouraging you to comply.

I'd just be careful of making a fact of it, believing a more accurate statement would be that you may have to endure some degree of pus and pain should the unlikely occur. However I would very much doubt that you would end up footing the bill, or having to enlist significant help from the aftermarket supplier.

You don't want to scare the kids unnecessarily, do you?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Jeep service costs

I'm not particularly precious about oil filters. I owned and serviced a couple of air-cooled VW beetles. They had no oil filter at all. All they had was a mesh oil strainer little better than mosquito netting. They did OK. However, saving a few hundred bucks over the life your $50,000 to $80,000 vehicle by buying cheap oil filters, may be false economy.

Re: Jeep service costs

Just because the price is more, does not make them better.
Ryco & Wesfil are both massive makers of filters world wide. Just because the cost less than 1/2 what Jeep charge, would not make them inferior.
Having purchased both the OEM Mopar one and the Wesfil one, they both looked like they came from the same place. The box, wrapping and filter all looked identical.
I would expect this to be the case, as most items are made in China and would come form the same factory.
The only "risk" in going non genuine is IF something does go wrong, it may end up in a shitfight over what caused it and who is to blame. I would expect Wesfil and Ryco to support any claim by Jeep that their product cause a problem, as they have a reputation to uphold in the aftermarket.
