Re: Jeep service costs

Hi Snuke, the price I gave was for the 10k diesel, if you are servicing at 12k have you got a petrol.

Re: Jeep service costs

I've never taken my vehicle in for service based on elapsed time (i.e. 6 months). Normally takes me close to a year to knock up the kms and that's when I get my services done (this is my second Jeep, and on at least one occasion I went quite a bit over the kms also). I do get a phone call from them every once in a while, stating that I am due for a service, to which I politely decline... I've never had a problem regarding warranty, etc doing it that way.

I never said it doesn't.
I'm just sharing my experience - who knows, maybe someone will save some money.

Just for discussion, whilst I'd also always go for kms travelled rather than time, I would recommend a thought is spared how many short trips are done over the 6 months/12 months. If I thought I was doing a lot of short stop starts with little kms and subsequent low engine temps I'd think about services more frequent and err towards the 6 months. Furthermore, a diesel appreciates a good work out now and again so a good trip up the highway or go tow 3 tonne around for a while will do it the world of good.

I recently purchased a 2011 GC. Do you happen to know who are better dealers in Newcastle?

Re: Jeep service costs

I may be wrong, but I think the dealers in Cessnock and Newcastle are run by the same parent company.

Totally agree! The time thing is simply a marketing ploy. The only things that age are the rubber components, the battery and one could probably include software updates. Mineral oil is good for 20+ years, synthetic oil, probable more. Condition based maintenance is always better than routine maintenance. Maintenance induced failure is also a big thing in industry. The principle is that there is only one way to pull something apart but many many ways of putting it back wrong. In other words, the fewer times a mechanic touches your car, the better.

So Narellan it is.

Oh, by the way - I have past 30k and I have not had a service light come on.
I just had my 30k service done. Didn't bother to ring Castle Hill even though they are only down the road for me as I know they are the most expensive when I compared prices for the 20k service. so I compared Parramatta and Narellan this time. I supply my own oil so the prices quoted reflect that:

Parramatta: $390
Narellan: $316 with a loan car.

So Narellan it was. Dropped my car in on Tuesday around 10am feeling a little jet lagged after returning home late the night before and remarked when booking it in I had a voucher for a free oil filter I had forgotten to bring with me. Natasha, the customer service girl says "That's the one from Mopar. No worries, don't worry about bringing it in, I'll just make a note of it." and adjusted the price to $258.45 for the service. She then says words to the effect of, "I can't put you in one of the normal loan cars, they are little swifts, VIPs deserve something a little better, give me a minute"

Now while I was very flattered, I'm thinking she's either meaning I'm a fat bastard and won't squeeze into a suzuki swift or she is really going the extra mile to make a good impression for some repeat business. Anyway, ten minutes later I was driving out the door in a brand new Honda Accord (The manager's car) and told the Jeep would be ready around 2pm.

On my way back to the dealership that afternoon, I remembered the PUTCO LEDs I had bought a few months ago to replace the bulbs in the DRL, so I rang Natasha to ask her could they be installed for me. No problems, no charge was the response.

I got back around 2pm and the replacement bulbs were fitted for me. Natasha queried me about the TSBs that had been installed as there was one installed that hadn't been recorded on my service history (an upgrade to the Uconnect firmware courtesy of Sox) I explained I had installed that myself so that was all good.

They did however, find an oil leak on the front of the timing cover which they had seen previously on another JGC which was caused by loose nuts. Apparently it is a bitch to get to and is a major job to access and fix so I had to leave my Jeep there for a couple of days while they fixed it under warranty. The downside was I had to give back the accord and drive a new swift with only a couple of hundred km on it for a couple of days - which I had NO problems fitting into BTW so I think she was trying to make a good impression to get me coming back.

Picked up the Jeep on Saturday as I couldn't get back before then. The Jeep was washed and ready for me, service performed, warranty work performed, DRL replaced and the damage was still only $258.45 all up. Add the price of 9lt of Mobil ESP1 from GL Lubricants and the total cost to me of the 30k service was around $395.00. The only downside was while they had rotated the wheels during the service, the wheels will now need a balance as I could feel a vibration at speed when hooting down the M7 at 110KPH.

They are a quiet dealership service-wise due to their location and are doubtless trying to build up their customer base of out of area clients. For the 45 minute drive down the M7 from the hills district, I got first class service at a better price than any of my local dealers. Was I impressed by the experience? Wheel balance aside, my fur coat I was. I will definitely be back.

One other thing that is worth noting, while like other dealers, the dealership sells various disparate brands, Ford Honda, Land Rover, Skoda, Kia, Suzuki, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge etc, each of the brands have their own separate workshops, so the Jeeps and Chryslers are serviced in a totally seperate workshop than the other brands.

Pretty damn impressed I must say. While I will compare prices before each service, I'm pretty sure I'll be going back for my next service.

Re: Jeep service costs

Good to see a positive review of a service department.
I have Artarmon Service on my case for my service. I told them when the SatNav update is in, so will I. I do not think I should hold my breath.
