Re: Jeep service costs

I was lead to believe that the service requirement was every 10 000kms
It was never mentioned that it was 10 000 or 6 months

Have a look at your service book, itís pretty clearly marked.
This is for all cars, distance and time intervals. Whichever comes first is when itís to be done.
The time thing becomes vitally important for low km drivers and time related perishable items, especially those that can cause massive damage. If you have a car that has a timing belt, never ever dream of missing it for time, even if itís not even close for distance. Rubber will break down over time, and become harder and brittle leading to breakages. For a timing belt failure, that is results in many thousands of dollarsí worth of damage.
In my Pajero, the timing belt was a real pain to get to, and mechanics hated having to do it, even though they could charge a solid amount for it. The last service I got on it before I sold it, I asked for it to be done even though I knew it was slightly early, it wasnít a risk I cared to take. I picked it up and it wasnít done, with a note saying it could be done next service. I was okay with it as it had their details saying that, so they became partially liable for any failure, and I was selling very soon when the GC arrived. I made sure the new owners were fully informed of this and the possible consequences of not getting it done.

Quoted $790 for its first annual service! Yeah right....
Think I'll be ringing around.

That is pretty good value if it includes a full professional detail inside and out.

Re: Jeep service costs

I would also expect a lap dance from Jenifer Hawkins. That is a total Rip off and the dealer should be named and avoided.

Re: Jeep service costs

WTH! That dealer must use gold oil instead of c3. Why don't you try NRMA Service Centre, they quoted me $330 using c3 oil plus mopar filter for 10k service. I didn't opt for it because they don't accept my BYO Mobil oil. My dealer quoted $360 incl. c3 oil.

What did 30k service entail?

Probably just the oil change, and counting my money.

Re: Jeep service costs

Why are people paying so much money for oil changes? I buy the oil myself, Castrol GTX; 6 Qts for $31.99, the filter is $20. I then take them to my local Quick Lube and have them change the oil for $20. Why are people paying $200+ for an oil change?

Re: Jeep service costs

- CRD oil specification
- OEM filter price
- Dealer labour rate

Most of us go to the dealer to maintain a "good" service history record... plus you kinda have to go there for all the updates anyway.

Cheers,
Steve

I don't quite buy that. I buy the same oil which meets Chrysler MS 6395 standards, the filter I get for wholesale price, and of course the labor rate varies from shop to shop. I also fail to see why I would'nt be able to maintain a "good" service record by NOT going to a dealership. As long as I keep an invoice of records from those shops I am still covered and still show a good vehicle service history.

You got me on the updates, but really how often do you have to get the ECU updated, since we can update the Uconnect by ourselves. Obviously if it's a recall or TSB, and it inhibits my ability to drive, then yes I am going to a dealership. However, I refuse to be blatantly ripped off under the (false) guise of a hypothetical situation where Jeep tries to screw me on a completely different issue simply because I never got the oil changed from them. $200+ for a oil change is highway robbery.
