Re: Jeep service costs

I brought Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for my SRT from Amazon and the filter for $52 shipped to Oz and got the local jeep service crew to change my oil for $100 . All up $152 and I provided the oil and filter

Re: Jeep service costs

"Buy" what you want. No argument.

The question was about what drove the cost and I just gave you my take on the answer in our market. CRD spec oil isn't available off the shelf at the price you mention in Australia. The trans, among other things, has received updates locally... stuff you can't update through U-Connect. Typically I've needed warranty work done too, so again, require the dealership. Lastly the car is a business vehicle and to a degree, it isn't worth arsing around to save the money.

Everyone's agenda will differ. I have actually thought of doing the oil, but I'd rather go boating or tend to the garden instead.

Cheers,
Steve

I can understand the boating, but never the garden....

Let me guess - Albion CJD?

They quoted me $740 some months ago for my 24k service. I queried it and also reminded them that they only charged me $500 for the 12k which is essentially the same, but they wouldn't budge.

I finally got a call from them yesterday stating my car is overdue for service. I came straight out and told the caller that I'd taken my business to Northstar, and paid $460 versus their ridiculous quote of $740. Funny thing is that I could feel my heart rate increase noticeably during the call. The whole saga of having to continually ring around to make sure one isn't being ripped really pisses me off.

BTW - really pleased with Northstar...

EDIT: - Sorry, to be accurate original quote was $713, not $740. Still a rip off.

Very good, thanks for that link. Of course that then led me down the Jeep reliability rabbit hole he points out on his web site. Oh well, money committed!!

Yeah? After how many kays could you expect a modern engine to actually seize if the oil level is maintained, but never changed?

I'm all for correct maintenance, but keep it real

When I worked for Toyota, I had a Camry come in because it had snapped a timing belt (120,000km on the clock)
Looked a service history, there was none, had NEVER been serviced, called owner, and he confirmed bought it, put fuel in it but NEVER had any maintenance done on it!.
I pulled the dip stick, no oil, put it on a hoist and pulled the engine sump plug, nothing came out, looked with a torch, just a gooy lump in the sump.
Called the customer again, he was adamant no service.
Changed the timing belt, started car, ran and drove fine, no bad engine noise, no smoke.
If I had not worked on it I would not believe it
Customer drove it out the door saying he'd got his money's worth out of this Camry

Re: Jeep service costs

Wow, and no damage from snapped timing belt, seems like a miracle engine.
