Re: Jeep service costs

Just speculating... I got the impression that there's a bottleneck at the computer / programmer. TSBs not required to fix a fault raised by the owner are often skipped as a result.

That was my thought Steve and the most logical from a dealership POV. Both you and I have always said 'If it ain't broke...'

The dealer can't charge Jeep AU the same labour rate as a customer, so $20 for an update which could take over an hour to perform doesn't appeal to them.

In my case with Narellan, the wheel alignment TSB, they don't have the equipment to perform wheel alignments so have to take to a Bob T Mart at Campbelltown (despite having a JAXX Tyres across the road). I even offered to take the car there for them, but they refused.

At the end of the day their convenience takes priority over the mechanical wellbeing of my vehicle. They don't get my business.

Yours is the first bad report from Narellan. Looks like the honeymoon is over. I was seriously considering using them in the future, but may now need to reconsider.

Re: Jeep service costs

For Melbourne Jeep owners.

I have just purchased a Cherokee for my wife from the new Bayford Chrysler - Jeep - Dodge Dealership in East Hawthorn (Camberwell). I've bought a lot of new cars in the past (6 x Hondas, 1 x Ford and 1 x Jeep Grand Cherokee (Limited) in 2004 from Nunawading Jeep) and I can tell you that the Bayford Jeep buying experience was great. I'll be (eventually) buying my Grand Cherokee from Bayford in East Hawthorn too.

Bayford is a new Jeep Dealership however the Bayford Group has been around for quite some time and they also have Volkswagon and BMW Dealerships too.

Red PeeKay has also bought from Bayford Jeep (he picks up his Grand Cherokee today) and we'll be reporting here on the after-sales Servicing experience.

Here's hoping that Bayford Jeep does just as good a job of their after-sales Service as they did with the fine Purchasing experience. Time will tell.

It's not all bad in WA. I just bought an ARB compressor from Ultimate4x4 in Canning Vale, WA 4http://www.ultimate4wdequipment.com.au/ for a good price and free shipping to Sydney. It beats driving around the 4x4 shops and listening to their know-it-all bull shit.

I'm not sure you will get much joy getting the dealer yo apply the wheel alignment TSB. The TSB has tolerances. All the dealer will do is check that you car is within tolerance and charge you for a wheel alignment. He will be within his rights and you will be none the wiser. The TSB's preferred setting for QL is, left camber -1.07, right camber -0.69, that is more negative camber on the left than the right. However, you could have the opposite, left camber +0.47, right camber -1.27 and still be within the camber and cross camber tolerances. Better go to Bob Jane's yourself.

Re: Jeep service costs

I was going to post similar sentiments yesterday. Whilst I'm not disputing your right to expect your chosen Jeep dealership attend to this... would you really want them to? If I had tracking problems I'd be straight down to a specialist aligner with the recently provided figures in hand. There, I would expect intelligent discussion with a view to getting right and saving you tyre wear, as opposed to ticking a box.

Again, I'm not saying that this is the way it should be.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Jeep service costs

I had the same issues with the wheel alignment, although it was the tyre place that buggered it up when I had new tyres fitted. Neither Narellan or Blacktown would help me with the alignment TSB as they did not have the equipment. But to their credit Castle Hill sorted it out. The tyre place has the camber out by more than 4 deg on both sides. Alignment is 100% now.

But....

Provisions of the warranty include wheel alignment for 12 months.

Carrying out a TSB, no cost to customer, reimbursable under provisions of warranty.

All warranty works needs to be carried out by a dealer. So WTF do I do??

What sh!ted me about Narellan they didn't even test drive it to see that there was a problem, but fobbed it off saying "if we rotate the wheels and check the tyre pressures that should fix it" and "the wheel alignment should have been done by your purchase dealer, it's not our problem."

What they should have said was "Sorry Mr Bigskiddy, we can't actually do alignments here, but we can test drive the car and if pulls to the left as per the TSB (out of the lane within 7 seconds) we can arrange to take it to Bob Jane and have it fixed, and of course this will be covered as per your warranty."

Anyway enough said on this I think.
