I was using this to show an obvious variable to different companies overheads. There are many other factors, this was just a quick one as an easy reference when you list dealers in different locations.

So how do Toyota Dealers manage to have the same service charges??

I do not buy it for one second unless you are in Alice Springs or somewhere such as that, it is simply some Dealers are more Greedy than others & Jeep in general need to lower the cost of parts & move to a 12 month/ 20000 k service interval like it is in many other Countries.

And bring in country wide capped price servicing with a reasonable pricing structure.

When you get prices over $1000.00 for a service it becomes laughable & a rip off!!!!

Aussie.
With each post, you appear to be losing credibility. You start with good arguments, and then badmouth someone with a different opinion.
I suggest you relax, take a deep breath, and think before you rant about another member, who incidentally has contributed more posts, more constructive and worthwhile comments as well as received more thanks than yourself.
Is it because it is a Monday?

Parramatta: $390
Narellan: $316 with a loan car.

So Narellan it was. Dropped my car in on Tuesday around 10am feeling a little jet lagged after returning home late the night before and remarked when booking it in I had a voucher for a free oil filter I had forgotten to bring with me. Natasha, the customer service girl says "That's the one from Mopar. No worries, don't worry about bringing it in, I'll just make a note of it." and adjusted the price to $258.45 for the service. She then says words to the effect of, "I can't put you in one of the normal loan cars, they are little swifts, VIPs deserve something a little better, give me a minute"

Now while I was very flattered, I'm thinking she's either meaning I'm a fat bastard and won't squeeze into a suzuki swift or she is really going the extra mile to make a good impression for some repeat business. Anyway, ten minutes later I was driving out the door in a brand new Honda Accord (The manager's car) and told the Jeep would be ready around 2pm.

On my way back to the dealership that afternoon, I remembered the PUTCO LEDs I had bought a few months ago to replace the bulbs in the DRL, so I rang Natasha to ask her could they be installed for me. No problems, no charge was the response.

I got back around 2pm and the replacement bulbs were fitted for me. Natasha queried me about the TSBs that had been installed as there was one installed that hadn't been recorded on my service history (an upgrade to the Uconnect firmware courtesy of Sox) I explained I had installed that myself so that was all good.

They did however, find an oil leak on the front of the timing cover which they had seen previously on another JGC which was caused by loose nuts. Apparently it is a bitch to get to and is a major job to access and fix so I had to leave my Jeep there for a couple of days while they fixed it under warranty. The downside was I had to give back the accord and drive a new swift with only a couple of hundred km on it for a couple of days - which I had NO problems fitting into BTW so I think she was trying to make a good impression to get me coming back.

Picked up the Jeep on Saturday as I couldn't get back before then. The Jeep was washed and ready for me, service performed, warranty work performed, DRL replaced and the damage was still only $258.45 all up. Add the price of 9lt of Mobil ESP1 from GL Lubricants and the total cost to me of the 30k service was around $395.00. The only downside was while they had rotated the wheels during the service, the wheels will now need a balance as I could feel a vibration at speed when hooting down the M7 at 110KPH.

They are a quiet dealership service-wise due to their location and are doubtless trying to build up their customer base of out of area clients. For the 45 minute drive down the M7 from the hills district, I got first class service at a better price than any of my local dealers. Was I impressed by the experience? Wheel balance aside, my fur coat I was. I will definitely be back.

One other thing that is worth noting, while like other dealers, the dealership sells various disparate brands, Ford Honda, Land Rover, Skoda, Kia, Suzuki, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge etc, each of the brands have their own separate workshops, so the Jeeps and Chryslers are serviced in a totally seperate workshop than the other brands.

Pretty damn impressed I must say. While I will compare prices before each service, I'm pretty sure I'll be going back for my next service.
Sounds like other dealers could take a lesson on Customer Service
Better watch out JA may tell them to stop out doing other dealers

I don’t know. I am neither a Toyota dealer nor a Toyota employee. But just like not all Toyota dealers pay the same amount for their cars yet are subject to the same RRPs. I suspect there are rebates involved, but I don’t know.
Some Toyota service centres are also service centres for other brands, and I know that they do offer different service charges for other brands to other dealers.
I would imagine that the rebates that Toyota have to give back to dealers for a fixed service cost is simply considered part of the marketing budget as this is what it is.
It is an excellent service, and more brands seem to be adopting it.

This may well be the case, but what I was trying to say earlier is that you do not know each individual dealers business and therefore you are not really in the place to make an accurate comment on claims of being “greedy”.
You may be 100% correct, but you may also be 100% wrong. Neither you nor I have the information to make such claims with such conviction.
Try to take the emotion you feel as a consumer out of it. Try to look at the picture as a whole, they are a business, they exist to make a profit. You have the right to take your business wherever you feel.
It is no different to requiring any trade – plumber, sparky etc.. to do some work. It is their business and their capitalist right to charge whatever they feel.
If you feel it is greedy, go elsewhere.
I mentioned earlier in this thread that I had one dealer charge me far more than another for the same work.
I chose to go there anyway due to the convenience, my money, my choice.

I think we would all like to see that.
I do not know enough to understand exactly why we have the shortest service intervals in the world (I think) for Jeeps.
Our climate is not anywhere near as cold as North America or Europe, and we are just as equally hot as Nth Am.
Unless our fuel or road conditions play a part, it does look like a simple cash grab.

Re: Jeep service costs

For me as a German, moved to Canada 8 years ago, car owners in North America don't ask dealers what would be the best to do. I for myself ask my dealer and his sales people "holes in there belly"! If you would take the Golden plus service plan, you get here in Canada 2 years longer warranty and all services for the next 5 years are included. So let me see.... $2,400 for the plan and everything is covered or paying $600 for an service incl. oil change? I think it is not a big brainer what to do. And my dealer here showed me how much a service would be and than how much he asked for the plan.
Maybe if people would pay in cash for the service and had the bills in there hands, they would think twice about the service costs instead of swiping a "plastic card".

No offense - but $600 for a service every 10,000 km is a joke. In Europe services are made at 15,000 or 30,000 km. But here in North America it is a safe income for the dealers if customers don't take the service plan!

My 2 cents.

Re: Jeep service costs

Papaya, some of us already know we are being screwed!!!
And certainly no offence taken.
Unfortunately a service plan such as you describe just isn't made available here by dealers - there's not enough customer pressure to be able to squeeze Chrysler Australia or the dealers.
Yep, our Australian service intervals are rubbish - and we even find that dealers don't use the Chrysler specified oil in the CRD engines.
Those of us on this forum can at least make a small difference by sharing dealer experiences and pricing. By supplying the right oil ourselves and asking the right questions of the dealer we can at least minimise the load on our wallets.

Hi John.
I can understand your point. For me as a German - use to prices all inclusive - I am always close to a stroke when we buy a car here in Canada. :-)
This on top and this plus that and this...
In Germany there is a price on the car - tax on top - that's it. Ok. If you like upgrades - that's a other story. And here in Canada they ask $120-140 labor an hour :-O .
Honestly? And yes. That's a point to change your oil and filters on your own as I do on my other older cars.

Regards, Holger.
