Re: Jeep service costs

nicjak, yes your post got me checking, but from what I have seen the intervals are extending hence the price should be reducing for servicing. Not sure that this is the situation and certainly shouldn't be driving the large variations in pricing.

Another discrepancy is

"Change Transfer Case Fluid" current handbook outlines 50K other guide 80K. Anybody got experience if Transfer Case Fluid was changed at 50K?

I'm looking to book at a 'normal' service centre (Jeep out of warranty) and want to ensure the correct fluids are changed.

thanks

The situation deepens I just called Jeep here in Canberra and the service manager looked up and confirmed that both the transmission and transfer case fluids need to be replaced. Not sure if it is different advice for MY14.

Re: Jeep service costs

Check this out Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Maintenance information and schedules .
  • Transmission oil change:
    • Schedule A: 100,000 miles (~160,000km) for the 5-speeder and "fill for life" for the 8-speeder.
    • Schedule B: 60,000 miles (~100,000km) for the 5-speeder and "fill for life" for the 8-speeder.
  • 2-speed transfer case oil change:
    • Both Schedules A and B: Inspect at 30,000 miles (~50,000km), top up only?
  • Diff oil change:
    • Schedule A: 36,000 miles (~60,000km)
    • Schedule B: 18,000 miles (~30,000km)
So, take your pick!

Remember, Jeep Aust. seem to think that we are harder on our vehicles so have deemed all Aussies to be on Schedule B. This wouldn't have anything to do with more frequent service visits would it?

After also consulting the trusted local automotive company they also looked up their reference and said they need to purchase both fluids from Jeep to perform the service.

I think I'll need to research if I can buy these and supply them.

Re: Jeep service costs

Just had 60k service at Hallam
There was $100 difference in price between four dealers
Mainly due to oil charges. Most get oil from their parts department

Paid $510.
They said I need front and rear brakes due to 2mm wear quoted me $3500 to fix

And this for a high price guide in Sydney (Waitara)

I just called Waitara for a quote for the 40,000 km service for my 2014 Diesel - $1600 plus (I was so stunned by the $1600 I didn't hear the "plus"!). I said I had been quoted $980 by my Cessnock dealer and asked what the difference might be. The guy said that the service they do is specified by Jeep, and varies from the handbook which is "out of date"! I asked what they did that made it so expensive, and he read out the list of normal things from the handbook, but added flushing the brake fluid. First time I ever heard that this could be required after 18 months and 40000km. Their hourly rate is $132 and the specified time is 4 hours. Which leaves a lot for parts and oils (I was also surprised about changing the diff soil at 40000km, but saw that john47 did it at this distance and thought it looked like it needed it. The fuel filters are horrendously expensive at about $280 for both. And the oil charges were high too, with the engine oil at $140 I think. In any case, I'll be sticking with the local dealer or an Indy.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: Jeep service costs

So they have increased by $300+, crazy. Very happy I pre-purchased the first 3 years for $2,500 then. Everyone (owners) will be happy when/if implement fixed price servicing.

Jeep service costs

Sure will , servicing cost and warranty is playing a big part in my consideration of a new car. I'm frankly sick of having to micro manage servicing of my GC - ring around for quotes, are they doing the correct scheduled work, are parts available....Good Grief!

Short list is coming down to Ford Everest, Disco, maybe a second hand RR Sport and if I want to beat myself around the head again - another GC. Or I might just go completely left field and keep my existing GC for my missus and buy myself a Beemer.

The GC is a great car let down by a crap support system.

I have just had my 70K service and still have 50% front pads and 45% rear pads.
Was advised that there is a recall for EGR hoses .
Any one heard this.
