Re: Jeep service costs

Anybody completed there own transmission fluid change yet? I know in some guides its fill for life but looking at a lot of Mercedes Benz forums concerning the 722.6 there is a strong recommendation to do it at 60k. My MY12 manual outlines 50K

These days technology is so good and maintenance so bad that stats are showing most failures occur shortly after maintenance events. Just watch Air Crash Investigations. Most of you would have had cars returned with caps missing, screws missing etc. So if the consensus is to fill for life and you haven't been doing wheelies or a lot of towing, then just leave it alone. Most likely you will have sold the car before the gearbox packs it in anyway. If mine gets done it will be only if I do it.

Re: Jeep service costs

Bob, I agree with what you say in terms of circumstance of failure.

For me I now have all the parts, for the transmission service and it seems a relatively easy maintenance activity, the only bit of information I am verifying is if the transmission temperature on the instrument cluster is accurate enough to set fluid level.

I would think it's miles accurate enough. I wasn't aware that temperature was an issue in refilling but I'd guess it's taking account of expansion of the gearbox case.

Re: Jeep service costs

Just had my 40K service done with Bega Jeep Dealer. $1481.00 inclusive of all lubes and parts. I had a look at the breakdown of the A/c. Labour $396 Lubes/ filters $1085. I suggested they give a complimentary vallium with the account in future.

That's pretty cheap considering parts alone are just under $800. I'd check what they are actually going to do.

On Friday I'm getting mine done by private mechanic, using Ryco filters, Mobil ESP 1 and Redline for the diffs. I should be under $500 including labour.

I'm currently waiting at Chullora Jeep for them to replace my camera. They screwed up. Maybe I'll ask for a complementary 40k service. On second thought they might do more harm then good.

Does a "private mechanic" have access to TSB's and can he flash our computers etc?

Re: Jeep service costs

No, but in theory you should be able to go to a Jeep dealer and get those done as warranty jobs at no cost.
