Re: Jeep service costs

Well I just booked mine in for its 20k service at Trivett Prestige Taringa next week. Quoted $560 for the service and they do Jeep warranty and software update work. Lets see how they go.

Re: Jeep service costs

Boxheadmr had a rattle in my dash also that was difficult to isolate, ended up being the insulation shield on the firewall near the turbo had not been secured properly.

Re: Jeep service costs

Tell me this ain't correct..

Just went to book my JGC Overland for it's 2 year service, was bought in April 2013, and was quoted $1,394

Could my local mechanic, who seems pretty competent, do a reasonable job for this service. Is there anything special that would warrant such a cost?

Thanks

Read back a couple of posts. Sounds like your getting a discount compared to some.

According to the service schedule posted by SNUKE some time ago the 2 yr service is listed at just under $1200. It specifies changing diff oil, HVAC filter, fuel/air filters etc etc plus more labour of course.

Re: Jeep service costs

I was a dealer mechanic for Toyota and we used to get a bonus for the speed we did services in. We would bundy clock on/off for every job.
I could do a 3.5hr service in 45 mins if you knew what to do and what not to do. It would be impossible to do everything that was listed in the allowed time, so you can imagine how much was not done.

I hated the place, as I was used to working on high end Euro's and never pushed for speed, it was all about quality.

My last Jeep service cost me $480 and all they did was change the oil. I checked the rest of the items on the logbook and nothing else was done. They also did not do the 7 items I asked them to sort out, including TSBs and recalls.
Dealers are known to be rippoffs for a reason, that's because they are. In a lot of cases they employ "technicians" not licensed mechanics, as they do not need to be qualified to change oil or update ECUs. The Mechanics are generally on the bigger jobs like big replacements (Motors, gearboxes, etc.) or diagnosing weird problems.
This is why the quality we receive is so hit and miss. Very busy, lack of training and poor workmanship.

Re: Jeep service costs

I am making sure my dash cams are powered all the time for this next service, so I can watch the entire process.

The hassle of getting to and from any service centre and then having to do that again for updates, I would and have happily (maybe) paid extra to just have it all done at once. Or in the case of my dealer, do the service and ignore the updates and recalls.
Whatever I do car wise in the future, one thing is for sure, I wonít be dealing with Suttons Waitara again. My 18 month service is due at the end of the month, letís see what idiocy I can get out of them this time.
Suttons Wataria caused me a bunch of grief. The Dealer Principal there lacks integrity. I personally would never deal with him or that dealership evef again.

Re: Jeep service costs

Paid $560 for the 20K.
Will get the 30K done at Dealership.
The 40K will be done by father and son team been working on 4x4s for 40 years and they specialise in Jeeps. They have all the specialised electronic tools.MTA approved for servicing under warranty.
The dealer can then quote on future services. And get warranty and TSBs that I specifically request.
I will supply oils fluids snd filters from this point on. I will not pay $1300 plus for a service that's highway robbery.

It should be a per-requisite that this be read and memorised before joining the blog.
