Re: Jeep service costs

I still wouldn't call it capped. A little cheaper and consistent would be a better way to describe it. Capped price on a Prado as an example for first 60k is 210 a service, so they still have a way to go. In saying that their 80k service is about the same price.

Well technically, they aren't calling it "capped" either.

Comparing service charges to a Prado is a little unfair.
Most of our costs per service is the cost of oil. Our CRD is a newer breed of motor and has a DPF and requires much lower viscosity oil.
The D4D is a truck engine about 20years old and only needs cooking oil.

Wait until the new Prado with 2.8l CRD comes out in a few months. I suspect service charges will be around the $320-$350 mark.

Well it's capped in the sense that FCA are controlling what the dealership can now charge I suppose and let's face it, some of them have been adding on a good $400-$500 more as Noons can testify to over at his part of the world.

The prices coming up on the new website are what we have always paid Macarthur Jeep so no surprises there for us.

At the last service for the Grand, I had a conversation with them about pricing and how some dealerships were charging a whole lot more and she said that they had been receiving lots of phone calls from other dealerships asking why their prices were lower and were they running some sort of 'special'.

Now we have consistent (and for some, cheaper) pricing across the board regardless of where you are in Australia. That's a good thing.

Re: Jeep service costs

Comparison of 3 local Jeep dealers to service a 2012 JGC diesel

1) Bathurst 2012 Diesel Jeep 80 000 km service is $1626.33 incl. GST

2) Nepean Motor Group The 80,000km service on your 2012 Grand Cherokee is: $1310.00

3) Narellan It’s another major $850.00 for the full log book service

Just a bit of difference between dealers.

So Fixed prices are as follows for the MY14-MY15 CRD. I checked the first 6 services using different Sydney and Melbourne dealers for each service, they matched each time. All dealers would be covered as Metro as opposed to regional.
Edit: I randomly checked a few other post codes, Hobart, Maffra Vic, Alice Springs, Darwin, Geraldton WA, and some other remote areas that gave no result for the 80,000km service, all came back with the same $1,222.27 price.

Re: Jeep service costs

What is of great interest to me, is that I pre-paid my first 3 years worth of servicing, knowing full well this fixed cap may come along.
I paid $2,500 including valet service of picking up and returning the car. With this cap the first 3 years is $2,908.05, so I am still ahead.

There are some scary services ahead. I can see many people dumping the car prior to 100,000 for that alone.

Re: Jeep service costs

From my understanding the transmission oil and filter don't ever get changed.
Same as BMW. It's a fully sealed unit.

Jeep service costs

Good news indeed!

Some of the services still seem overpriced, but at least you can avoid the ridiculous chore of ringing around dealers and comparing quotes and checking what they are actually doing.

FCA still have a fair way to go to be best practice, but the Irishman seems to be kicking some early goals.

I'm overdue for my 70k service - just could not bring myself to deal with the drama and was considering my options now I'm out of warranty. But for $388 I might just stick with a dealer. Wonder if Narellan will still offer their free loan car?

Yikes! The 80k and 100k services are killers!
