Laredo liftgate issue

My liftgate will no longer unlock by pressing the outside button on the chrome bezel. I have to unlock it by touching the door handle. It's as if the liftgate sensor is not operating but the fault could be in the button itself or anywhere along the wiring. Before you race off to tell me the plug to the sensor has come off, I can assure you I checked that first. So before I start ripping the paneling out to trace the fault, I was wondering if someone else has had a similar issue? Also has anyone heard of the door sensors failing at all?

Re: Laredo liftgate issue

Just checking.
Key fob in the pocket?

I've found with the MY14 that the max distance from the rear tailgate handle to the keyfob is slightly less than the max distance from the doorhandle to keyfob.

ie. the door handle sensor seems to have better range than the the tailgate sensor.

Re: Laredo liftgate issue

See if you can pup the flipper glass witht he car locked to see if it is detecting the FOBIK. If you can pop the flipper glass, then it would be the button, if you cannot, then it could bet he rear proxy sensor.

I would get Jeep to fix it as you should still be under warranty.

Yep! I also tried it up close but still nothing.

The flipper glass button works fine with the car unlocked and not with the car locked. It is quite independent of the location of the fob. I'm not sure if it was like this before.

You must be joking. Do you really think I'd let some apprentice mechanic just out of school lay hands on my pride and joy? Besides it's well out of warranty.

I guess I'll have to get out the panel removing tool and multimeter.

Re: Laredo liftgate issue

Well, it seems the old do nothing strategy has worked again. The liftgate break just broke and it's working again. Let's hope it stays that way.

Re: Laredo liftgate issue

If it does it again try spraying around the button with elec. cleaner, like when you have a sticky button on a key bored.
