Leaking air con condensor

I have a 2012 diesel Grand Cherokee that's done 120,000 kilometres and the air conditioner condenser is leaking.

Has any one had to replace their air conditioner condenser.

I have been quoted $1000 for a genuine condenser and then on top of that the fitting and re gassing.

Does any one know of the condensers in the jeeps failing so early.

Thanks in advance

Replaced last week. On a 2012 as well, 97,000km. Fortunately mine was covered under extend warranty.

It's together with the transmission cooler unit. Their worth only a few hundred part only, $400 I think from US.

Yep, mine failed at 80,000km out of warranty. At first FCA did not want to replace it, but after a carefully worded email reminding them of consumer law they agreed to replace free of cost.

In a nut shell, consumer law says that cars ( and anything else for that matter) need to be durable and fit for purpose, and last for a period that a reasonable consumer would expect. I'm a reasonable consumer, and I would say that a condenser should last way longer than 120k / 4 years.

So I say lodge a case with with FCA and demand that they replace. And lodge a complaint with Dept Fair Trading to let them know you are not mucking around.

And it should not be any issue for FCA anyway - they just pass on the cost to the original supplier of the condenser anyway.

Don't back down.

Good luck.

Re: Leaking air con condensor

Mine failed at about 90,000 km. Fortunately covered by Extended Warranty otherwise it would have been about $2,000 all up! There are a number of reports here on this as, at the time, I was able to correctly diagnose it from reports here, before I went to dealer. There is clearly a problem although not very widespread fortunately.

Re: Leaking air con condensor

Yep, 2012 JGC, on our 3rd condenser. Last time they also replaced the radiator as that was weeping also. 1st replacement was under warranty, 2nd replacement was out of warranty but Jeep paid for the part, and I the labour. Radiator was totally at my cost.

Re: Leaking air con condensor

It appears that Jeep have a problem.

I submitted a warranty claim and have been informed that Jeep will contact Me with in a fortnight ..

Lets see if they are true to their word (am not holding My breath)

I will have the AC condenser replaced tomorrow as I will be off travelling for 3 or so weeks.

Seems from other blogs that it's not only Australia that is having issues as there are concerns raised from people in America that are having the same issues, and yes ALL condensers are leaking on ( In Australia the passengers side.) the same side.

Everyone have a SAFE and Merry Christmas.

Re: Leaking air con condensor

Been watching this with interest since my condenser crapped itself at 87 00k's the other week in in Canberra while on a family holiday, yep, when the really hot weather hit.

Tested at my local Nissan dealership, condenser cracked/receiver dryer leaking, $1700.

I contacted my usual Jeep service agent and was quoted slightly less to my surprise. I mentioned 5 years is probably not a long time to have a condenser last and mentioned Dept of Fair Trade and A.C.C.C.

I was then informed that Jeep is coming into line with other major manufacturers like Toyota and Nissan and now wish to appease customers to have them come back as a repeat customer. I got the impression Jeep are starting to get the hint people are pissed off with Jeep and going elsewhere.

As I had my Jeep serviced only by Jeep, the service manager put in a request of 'good will' to have everything covered for free. No dice as warranty was 2 years out.
A further request for special pricing citing previous circumstances was submitted.
As a result, Condenser/trans cooler/receiver/dryer supplied plus labour $1000.00. saved $600.00. This included gas for the system and ready to go.
