Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Hello,

I've taken delivery of a MY15 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD Limited.

It has been almost faultless thus far bar one minor thing.

As the title states, I've had occasional shudder/vibrate (albeit very mildly) through the foot well + steering wheel. It seems to only happen every so often (4 times so far in the two weeks I've had it), twice on a cold start and once on a warm start) and it lasts about 10-20 seconds. It also happened once when I stopped at the lights whilst in drive and it didn't go away until I started driving again.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't thrash my car and I've been averaging 7.5L/100km since I took delivery.

Cheers

No, but I have found that disabling hill start assist has transformed my tansmission into silky smooth, whereas before I'd get weird clunking and rough changes. Worth a try.

Is there an associated increase in diesel clatter with this happening. This has happened every time mine experiences excessive diesel clatter, with it also being down on power for that 10 to 20 seconds. Mine only does it on restarting, when not fully warmed up. Have not yet had the latest update for Detonation/DPF done but at the last service they put an additive in the tank and it's been perfect since.
Just my 20cents but this engine does not like being idled around, it likes working hard from what I have experienced.

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Hi Gustlock,

Now that I come to think of it, it is happening when it is not 'fully' warmed up. I remember started my vehicle in the garage when it happened the first time after it has been sitting around for a few hours.

I do notice a little more clatter on cold start, but given my past experience coming from a Hilux D4D, I wasn't overly concerned.

I have noticed the engine doesn't like idling, especially when I start it first thing in the morning before I go to work. I have my 1000km complementary check up, I'll raise it with them then and see what they say.

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

To those who are interested, I took it into Ozzy Park for the 1,000km complimentary check up and they did indeed replicate the vibration as I mentioned. They have acknowledged there is a problem and but could not locate where/why it is happening and what is causing it.

They have apparently asked for Chrysler for information as to what they can do....let's see then :/

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Just regarding the comments on idling... we do a lot of car and trailer shuffling at our house and I tend to leave the engine running. Furthermore, aside from our trips away, I do mostly short <70km/h inner metro driving. I've had no negative impact from this usage.

Cheers,
Steve

Doesn't sound good Jay. Hopefully they get it sorted soon. Does sound very familiar unfortunately. Do you Know if they did a Forced Regen for troubleshooting?

Thanks Steve and that is great to here. My engine has had this erratic idle and excessive clatter problem on occasions since Jan last year (Jan13 update done) and 2 months ago they put some sort of additive in the tank and neither the occasional erratic idle or clatter has returned. I don't believe the latest detonation update will rectify the issue with my vehicle as the clatter is not what I here others are experiencing. In my opinion and I am not a diesel tech or expert but I believe for some reason this engine comes off tune with inconsistent idle running. This problem seems to only occur on start-ups and usually never when at full operating temperature. Hence my comment.

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

If you want to borrow my OBD dongle and a tablet with Torque running on it you're welcome to drop in to my place near Ascot. It's not hard to use.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Thanks Steve, have had old scanner hooked in with basic data but nothing obvious. Have been following the DPF issue thread with interest and have ordered an ELM327 set up to give it a go to see if anything shows up. Will contact you if that's OK if I run into trouble setting Torque up thanks. I think the service guys know a lot more than what we are being informed with the DPF issue. Maybe the problem is that some engines produce different profile fuel flows or combustion rates causing these issue? It all comes down to Jeep to authorise rectification for the clatter/rough running when there is no hard fault as it never occurs when they have the vehicle it seems. Jays must be obvious, luckily or not.
It's like the air-conditioning in this vehicle finally after compiling heaps of data (temp settings and variations) they have excepted that it's not working correctly and have put forward a case to Jeep about it (taken over a year now). It seemed to worked Ok when I first bought the vehicle Oct13. The updates have only made it worse.

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. I am yet to hear back from Jeep Osborne Park, but it has only been a week so I am happy to bide my time to make sure they get the correct information.

Another thing I have noticed is sometimes my music pauses for a good second or two when I am browsing through my UConnect. Apparently they could not locate that fault. I was surprised, since the UConnect problem happens a lot more than the vibration.

I don't believe there are any updates for the MY15 vehicle, as my other half had asked when she took it in for 'service.

I'll provide more information once I hear back from them.

Regards,

Jason

Re: Limited CRD - Shudder in park

Hi Jay this is off thread but try your V/R to select a song title from an SD file. Don't use it for media in my vehicle anymore but interested to see if the 15 recovers the rest of your music when you reselect manually after using V/R. Sorry in advance if it stuffs UP! I do know the fix if it fails to recover your SD music files.
