long range fuel tank installed - crd

Just picked up the jeep from Long Range Automotive where they fitted a 74 litre auxiliary fuel tank in the space under the rear of the vehicle. Very neat install and looks like no impact on ground clearance or departure angle. the tank pumps into the main tank via a fuel transfer pump and is fitted with a small led indicator and pump switch in the centre console.

Around $1800 installed and all very nicely done. Tank will take almost 78 litres if filled to the brim so all up will be 171 litres of diesel enough for between 1600 and 2000 ks driving, i like that!

Call Paul at LRA on 03 97395667 for more info.

Interestingly he told me they had an oder for 100 plus JGC tanks for China, apparently GC's are selling up big there.

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

How do you fill it up ?
So you need to transfer the aux into the prime tank when it is near empty ?

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

They install a second filler spout next to the current one, so you just move the bowser nozzle from one spout to the next. Both are under the fuel cap and filler door, so there's no exterior changes. A very tidy piece of work. Rob Chez has posted pics on ausjeepoffroad

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

That is one very nicely engineered solution. Well done to them for creating such a nice product.

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

I'll be fitting one to mine at some stage after I take delivery, hopefully before Christmas.
I had an NP Pajero that had a 60lt LRA aux tank using the same filling and transfer system.
It's quite weird driving along and watching your fuel guage go up rather than drop when you're tranferring fuel....hehe

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

Nice. looks great! Never going to be more than 200kms and don't tow so can't justify the coin to install but it's awesome.

Re: long range fuel tank installed - crd

I just noticed the rear recovery hook is missing.

Maybe it has to come out to make way for the tank? I guess you could use a tow hitch recovery point.
