Looking to take the plunge with an SRT in Melbourne

Hi All,

Starting a new job next month and am looking to novate a lease on a car for the commute. As a young bloke I used to really enjoy my cars (ford V8's) which is why I was drawn to the Jeep GC SRT, however as it has been 8 years since I've actually owned a car (have been using company cars) and being a pretty major purchase, was just wondering if I could throw a few things by you all.

  1. What should I be expecting to pay for a white SRT with the sunroof/HK audio upgrade and a set of spider monkey rims? The leasing company quoted me $88k, however no guarantees on the colour or rims. A quote I obtained for myself came in at $92k which has everything I want except for the rims which I am told are getting hard to get.
  2. The $92k quote I got is claiming the SRT in transit for which they quoted me on is the new 2015 model. Should we be expecting these to be landing in Aus yet? Would be preferable to get the 2015 model in terms of resale value after my lease is up, still, $92k is up there. Any advice?
  3. There is a perception with a lot of people it seems that think Jeep quality and service is junk. The GC is now the best selling mid sized SUV in Aus I believe, so I take that with a grain of salt. I've read of some issues with the CRD, however not a great deal with the SRT. What have peoples experiences with the 2014 SRT reliability been like?
  4. If I were to go ahead, the SRT would be the main family chariot, so after sales service is a pretty big factor for me. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with Melbourne City Chrysler Jeep Dodge at all?
  5. I've not managed to secure a test drive of an SRT yet. One of the last remaining big unknowns for me is passenger ride comfort. We doe some big country miles where roads often have a pothole or two. Just how stiff is that suspension in Auto mode?
Appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks.

Have a look here - Melbourne SRT Club

Re #3 -Yes, they were pretty average for reliability and quality, this has massively improved since MY 2011. CRD has had some issue with the DPF, but otherwise no real dramas for any of them. 5 Recalls, all but one for nothing worth going out of your way to get looked at or fixed.
After sales service, well that blows big donkey balls as far as Jeep Aus is concerned, spare parts are not well catered for, expensive and if out of stock, even if critical, they are never air freighted. As for dealer after sales service, like anything, that varies greatly from dealer to dealer and who you personally deal with. Overall, they could do with a good improvement.

Re: Looking to take the plunge with an SRT in Melbourne

1. Price sounds about right....
2. 2015s are likely to start landing in November, might be worth waiting for:

3. The Jeep is competitive on price, how much would it cost to buy a euro express SUV with the same specs? The tradeoff is that the car isn't perfect, they can get a few gremlins, and as Snuke says Jeep Oz are very slow to respond to an issue, and SOME dealer service centers are nothing short of a joke. But if you can put up with some of these issues, can be patient to get things fixed (demand a loan if your car is in the shop for an extended period, etc), and find a decent service center, then the Jeep has a lot of bang for the buck. As Snuke says, many of the issues reported so far are often minor, and are to do with the Diesel, and also the V6 petrol, I haven't heard many SRT owners complaining.

Re: Looking to take the plunge with an SRT in Melbourne

1: $88k is an OK price, they can be had cheaper if you look around.
2: I would ask for it in writing that it is a 2015, and if its not that you get it for less than $88k.
3: There are approx. 2 recalls and perhaps 3 TSB's for the SRT. None of them are of major concern and easily rectified.
4: Dunno about Melb sorry..... would you buy in Syd and drive home lol?
5: As a daily driver the ride is minimally harsh. As the driver you soon get used to it but as an occasional passenger it may seem a bit aggressive. It doesn't help that it has run flat tyres which are notorious for crap ride quality. The bonus is the 'run flat' capability.
6: Don't worry about the test drive.... I bought mine without a drive first (although I did drive two 2012 models with the 5spd).

A mate got his for 87,000, only difference was the Rear DVD entertainment pack added.

Hope this helps

Hey accubass,

Thanks for the tips. I'm looking to get an MY15 so I suspect might be a tad higher? Good to know a base to work from...
