What paint did you use? The blurb says the rock rails are painted in "Textures SatinBlack". It would be great to get some touch-up paint. I have a couple of minor scratches. I found this stuff on the web http://jeepkonection.com.au/proddeta...aint_T%2FB_AEV . It looks like it might be the go. I might give it a try.

#/ they were cheap, for if/when they get ripped off with a big rock.

Re: Mopar side steps

HelliPilot - thinking of getting the same side steps from the same seller. Was the install easy? Did you have to drill any holes, etc on the jeep? Are you happy with the functionality? Can it take a weight of an adult standing on it.

Can't go wrong for the price as all bars have things that hang down and could be ripped off except the sliders of course. Thats why I went cheaper.

Install was easy as could be. I did it by myself virtually one armed and handed (Left hand as I am right handed) as I have a right elbow and shoulder injury.

Absolutely no holes to drill hence the plugs removed and discarded on my last photo. They use existing holes that take the supplied bolt on a plate set-up. I think there was one left over and its on the tray of bits left over. see my last pic. If anything they could have given an extra bolt and long plate (100mm), but I managed with using a short one (bolt and 40mm plate).

Great functionallity, the treads are in the right place for us and they stick out heaps which is what I like for car parks.

Takes the weight allright, I'm 88kg of course it goes down a little but its not going to snap the brackets. If at all concerned replace bolts with high tensile or stainless. Besides the large bolts 10mm and 12 mm each bracket is attached to the seam by only 2 x 6mm bolts. I will be replacing these with high tensile. There are also those 12 and 10 mm bolts attaching brackets to the under sill and chassis, so don't worry the 6mm bolts do not hold all the weight.

I didn't read the instructions except for the bolt/plate sizes, the pictures supplied and common sense and just holding the bits up tells you where stuff goes. Brackets are marked very well LF LR RR RF etc etc.

Beat the hell out of paying some chump $250 to fit them for me.

This is off topic. Apologies, but you might be interested. I got a tin of the stuff I mentioned above. It cost $27.70 AUD including postage. I tried to get from the States but they just referred me back to their distributor Jeep Konection. It's pricy but sure works. Not only can't I see where the scratch was, I cant even see where I touched it up. The paint is marketed by the US firm AEV, an acronym for the illustrious title of American Expedition Vehicles.

I also saw these Kingsley steps which look good:

Part Number: 18J272 (9322046313618)
RRP: $640.00

I am only after side steps to assist my daughters geting into/out of the vehicle and for the extra protection they give from stone chips etc thrown up from the roadway.

The ebay ones are considerably cheaper and I suspect of lesser quality.

Has anyone here tried either of these that Selous posted about? I sure would like to see those over here in the states... wonder how bad the shipping would be on that from down under.

by the way, planning a trip there for next year. Hope it works out! Maybe while i'm there i should just buy this and take it back with me in my luggage

Re: Mopar side steps

A friend got the Kingsley stepboards which are made by the same guys that make the Kingsley integra steps shown above. Very solid fit and feel, more so than the tubular side steps but not as solid as rock rails.

He also had them powder coated in black to match his brilliant black GC, and I have to say it looks really really good.
