Looking at the 2017 JGC it appears that only the Trailhawk comes with front towhooks - all other models have the front tow hooks omitted. I'm guessing the argument is that they have been omitted to comply with Euro NCAP requirements for pedestrian safety. If that is the case it seem strange that they're fitted on the trailhawk. The US Overland models have chrome towhooks fitted so I wonder if it will be possible to retrofit them.

There was a saga over this a long time ago. The Euro pedestrian safety requirements aren't to do with the tow hooks, they are to do with the front crossmember design. For european models (and Australian models as they come off the same assembly line) Jeep made the front crossmember sweep back a bit to allow for some foam padding to be put inbetween it and the plastic bumper, this reduces injury to pedestrians if they are hit by the car.

But this also shortens the front chassis horn, so the OEM recovery hooks won't fit correctly. There is a bracket that attaches to the chassis horn and also the crossmember, it just don't line up with the euro front end design.

It looks like the trailhawks come from the US assembly line so have the non-euro pedestrian safety front end.

The uneek and chief recovery hooks should fit the 2017 models (I think) but I read one new owner had problems because the pop out panels you could remove to fit the hooks are now solid plastic on the MY17, so you have to cut it out.

Yes - the ongoing saga around tow hooks.

Nothing to do with pedestrian safety - just FCA stupidity.

But good news for Chief Products!
